DO YOU HAVE PROPER PREPARATION STRATEGIES FOR AFCAT 2017 ENTRY

  • Taking Notes is one of the most widespread study skills out there. In most cases, the key is to be able to summarise the content as quickly as possible while not leaving out any key info.
  • A good Mind Map can save you many hours of study and further consolidate your knowledge for your exams. Mind Maps are an extremely versatile tools. They can be used for brainstorming, outlining essays or study topics and for general exam preparation.
  • Using Flashcards is a particularly effective method of learning when trying to assimilate different facts.
  • Sometimes it can be difficult to grasp the implications of some theories. This is where studying case studies can be a big help. Case studies can help you visualise a theory and place it in a more familiar and realistic context. This is especially useful in business or law subjects.
  • Mnemonics are especially useful when memorising lists and sets. Mnemonics rules basically work by associating certain concepts with other concepts that are more familiar to us. There are many different ways to make mnemonics and these can be individual to the person.

Steps to improve your learning:

  1. Acknowledge your surroundings: Use your best judgement and know your surrounding in which you are going to prepare for exam.
  2. After assessing your environment, is to figure out which methods will be the best to learn/study in this environment. This can be achieved by understanding where you will be learning, and using past experiences to guide you along the process.
  3. Get trivial disturbances out of your way:  Start at the most important problems and fix them, working your way from your biggest problems to your smallest. This should include anything that might be bothering you because anything, even the smallest of disturbances will affect how well your brain processes information.
  4. You need to blank out your mind and body of concerns.
  5. Learning phase: Gather your learning materials in front of you, and begin reading/learning. Take deep, even, non-conscious breathing and pay no attention to anything around you but what you are learning.
  6. Regular revision:  Every 30 minutes, stop and practice what you’ve just learned.
