Republic Day Flypast This Year Will Be ‘Grandest & Largest’ With 75 Aircraft: IAF

  • The Republic Day parade on the Rajpath this year will see the “grandest and largest” flypast ever with a total of 75 aircraft to mark the Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav celebrations.
  • The flypast will conclude with seven jaguar fighter aircraft flying in the “Amrit” formation to commemorate the 75 years of Independence.
  • “The flypast will include Tangail formation which will have one Dakota and two Dornier flying in Vic formation. This is tribute to the Tangail airdrop operations of the 1971 War. There will also be Meghna formation of 1 Chinook and four Mi-17s.
  • The flypast will begin with “Dhwaj” formation with four Mi-17 aircraft, followed by “Rudra” and “Rahat” formations with 4 and 5 Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH).
  • Among the other aircraft that will display their might at the parade are Rafale, Indian Navy’s MiG29K, P-8I surveillance aircraft & Jaguar fighter jets.

Exercise TOPCHI- The Annual Firepower

  • The Indian Army conducted an artillery exercise at the Indian school of artillery in Deolali, Maharashtra.
  •  Visuals show a volley of firing demonstrated by the Bofors guns and tanks under the exercise – ‘Topchi’ in the Indian army’s artillery school in Nashik’s Deolali.

Pakistan NSA To Visit Kabul Day

  • Pakistan’s National Security Adviser Moeed Yusuf will lead an inter-ministerial delegation to Afghanistan on Tuesday to discuss the issue of border-fencing and take stock of the humanitarian needs of the war-torn country with the Taliban regime.
  • Pakistan has completed almost 90 per cent of fencing work along the 2,670-km international border to stop an easy passage for militants.

How The Budget Can Add More Firepower to India’s Defence Manufacturing

  • A country that depends on imports for its defence equipment can never be strong. Therefore, being self-sufficient in the defence sector is very important & it is linked to the ‘self-respect’ and ‘sovereignty’ of our country.
  •  The forthcoming annual budget can further contribute to this goal in two ways. By ensuring a requisite capital budget allocation for modernizing Indian Aerospace and Defence.
  • Last year’s capital budget allocation of INR 135,061 crores (~USD 18.91 Bn reflected a steep increase of 19% in procurement outlay. The current allocation is expected to maintain this degree of increase.
  • Under extant tax laws, a preferential rate of 15 per cent is available for new companies which set up manufacturing operations on or before March 2023.

Philippines To Acquire Missile System From India For $375m

  • The Philippines has finalised a deal to acquire a shore-based anti-ship missile system from India for nearly $375m to beef up its navy, the Southeast Asian nation’s defence minister said.
  • Under the deal negotiated with the government of India, BrahMos Aerospace Private Ltd will deliver three batteries, train operators and maintainers, and provide logistical support.
  •  In recent years the Philippines has repeatedly accused China of violating its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) by sending hundreds of militia boats into its waters.
  • The Philippines would be the first country to purchase it.
