Defence Cyber Agency Launches 'Cyber Suraksha' Initiative to Enhance National Cyber Resilience

The Defence Cyber Agency, operating under the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, has initiated a significant cyber security exercise known as ‘Cyber Suraksha’ to bolster national cyber resilience. This exercise commenced on June 16 and is scheduled to continue until June 27, 2025, with participation from over 100 individuals representing various key national defence agencies and stakeholders.

‘Cyber Suraksha’ is designed as a comprehensive, multi-phased initiative that seeks to replicate real-world cyber threats, enabling participants to effectively gauge their preparedness and responsiveness within a dynamic, gamified context. The exercise incorporates a series of structured learning modules paired with practical cyber challenge scenarios, enhancing participants’ capabilities to act swiftly against emerging cyber threats.

A prominent feature of the exercise is the Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) conclave, which emphasizes the leadership facets of cybersecurity management. This conclave will host sessions led by distinguished experts and will culminate in a high-impact Table-Top Exercise aimed at bolstering coordination and decision-making skills among senior leaders.

The Defence Cyber Agency has characterized ‘Cyber Suraksha’ as an integral component of its broader initiative to instill a security-first mindset throughout the defence ecosystem. Plans are in place to conduct such exercises regularly, ensuring ongoing readiness and fostering a culture of proactive defence against cyber challenges.

By merging technical training with leadership insights, ‘Cyber Suraksha’ marks a pivotal advancement in India’s commitment to enhancing its cyber infrastructure and preparing to address the evolving landscape of cyber threats effectively.
