Grief and Pride in Khetri as Indian Air Force Corporal Vijendra Yadav is Laid to Rest

A profound sense of grief mixed with pride enveloped the village of Khetri in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district as the remains of Indian Air Force Corporal Vijendra Yadav were transported back to his hometown. The 26-year-old airman tragically lost his life during a recreational trip with fellow servicemen to Keoti Waterfall in Madhya Pradesh on June 29, when he was swept away by a powerful current while swimming. Despite valiant rescue efforts by his comrades, Vijendra could not be saved, and his body was recovered the following day.

Born in 1999, Vijendra was the eldest of three brothers and a beacon of inspiration for his family. He realized his lifelong ambition of serving his country by joining the Indian Air Force in 2019. This past February, he marked a significant milestone in his life by marrying, just months before his untimely death. At the time of the incident, he was stationed in Prayagraj.

On July 1, a heartfelt tribute was organized in his honor upon the return of his remains, which were draped in the national flag. The villagers conducted a Tiranga Rally, where hundreds held the tricolor aloft, chanting patriotic slogans and commemorating his selfless service to the nation.

Vijendra’s commitment to his duty has left a lasting impression on his younger siblings, who now pledge to follow in his illustrious path by serving in the armed forces. His tragic loss resonates deeply within the village, where he is now remembered not just as a soldier, but as a martyr who dedicated his life to the nation—even beyond the conflict zone.

“He always dreamt big, lived for the nation, and wanted us to do the same,” said a grieving family member. “He will forever remain our pride.”

While his life was cut short, Corporal Vijendra Yadav’s legacy is destined to endure. He will be remembered as a devoted brother, a courageous soldier, and a proud son of India whose unwavering spirit and patriotism continue to inspire others.
