In a significant address at the 128th Foundation Day celebrations of Scindia School in Gwalior, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan emphasized that the defense of the nation transcends the realm of the armed forces. He underscored that safeguarding India’s sovereignty is a collective effort involving political leaders, diplomats, and soldiers, each playing a vital role.
Reflecting on recent defense operations, General Chauhan highlighted Operation Sindoor, executed in May, as a pivotal event in modern warfare. He described this operation as a moment that redefined decision-making and timing within military strategies. The operation involved precision air strikes targeting terror hubs situated across Pakistan and in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), demonstrating a significant evolution in India’s military capabilities.
The General articulated that the success of Operation Sindoor heralded a new paradigm: “talks and terrorism cannot go hand in hand.” His comments indicated a resolute stance on national security, particularly regarding the implications of nuclear threats, which the nation cannot tolerate.
These statements by General Chauhan reflect an increasing assertiveness in India’s approach to national defense and the necessity for unity among the government, military, and civilian populace during periods of conflict. The ceremony, an occasion of pride and tradition, took place at the historic Gwalior Fort and was attended by various dignitaries, including Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, alumni of the school, and parents, marking an important confluence of education and national service.
