Probationers of the Indian Police Service (IPS) from the 77 RR (2024 batch) recently visited Rashtrapati Bhavan to meet with President Droupadi Murmu. This engagement underscored the significant impact that young police officers can have in fostering a secure and progressive India.
During her address to the probationers, President Murmu stressed that while police powers are conferred by legal frameworks and regulations, true authority is grounded in integrity, both personal and professional. She articulated that the foundation of effective policing, particularly in a democratic environment, is built on integrity, empathy, and a strong sense of duty.
The President also highlighted the necessity for a future-ready police force. She emphasized that such a force should be empowered by technological advancements, guided by ethical leadership, and motivated by a commitment to public service. According to her, this approach will be essential in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat, or developed India. Murmu encouraged the young officers to embrace innovation in their approach, while also being steadfast in upholding justice and maintaining public trust through transparency and accountability.
The meeting served as an important reminder of the police force’s critical functions not only in ensuring law and order but also in contributing to nation-building through dedicated and principled service. The interaction aimed to inspire a new generation of police leaders to embody these values as they embark on their careers in law enforcement.
