Lieutenant General Anoop Shinghal, AVSM, SM, recently undertook a two-day visit to Selection Centre East (SCE) on 11-12 November 2025, focusing on the ongoing efforts to enhance the fairness, uniformity, and transparency in the officers’ selection system of the Indian Army.
During this visit, Lt Gen Shinghal engaged with the officers at SCE, commending their professionalism and dedication. He highlighted the significant reforms that the Indian Army is implementing within its Officers’ Selection Process. These changes are directed towards creating a system that is scientific, modern, and aligned with global best practices, thereby ensuring the selection of future leaders based on merit rather than bias.
The General praised the Centre for its adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and its commitment to a merit-based selection approach. He underscored the importance of ongoing evaluation and professional development for assessors, reinforcing the Centre’s role in nurturing capable leaders.
Additionally, Lt Gen Shinghal presided over two guest lectures aimed at providing assessors with insights into contemporary evaluation frameworks and recruitment practices. One of the sessions featured Mr. Sanjay Shrinet, the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC), who shared key perspectives on modern recruitment methodologies.
Mr. Shrinet’s talk touched on various critical topics, including transparent recruitment processes, competency-based assessments, digital integration in selection systems, and best practices for ensuring fairness and accuracy. The insights he provided served to enhance the assessors’ understanding of the similarities and differences between civil service selection, corporate hiring, and military leadership assessment.
Overall, Lt Gen Anoop Shinghal’s visit underscored the Indian Army’s commitment to elevating the standards of officer selection. By ensuring that candidates embody values such as integrity, capability, and adaptability, the army aims to cultivate a new generation of leaders dedicated to serving the nation.
