In a significant development for India’s defense capabilities, the Deep Strikers of the Kharga Corps have successfully conducted an operational validation of the Kharga Chakra, a 100-km electronic warfare (EW)-resilient fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). This event took place at the Mahajan Field Firing Range, showcasing the potential of indigenous technology in military applications.

The Kharga Chakra UAV, developed through a collaboration between startup companies based in Chennai and the Deep Strikers Eagle team, represents a notable achievement in the advancement of drone technology tailored for the Indian Army. This cutting-edge UAV is specifically designed to operate effectively in contested electromagnetic environments, an essential requirement given the increasing complexity of modern warfare.

During the validation process, Kharga Chakra exhibited impressive endurance and navigation accuracy, as well as a strong capacity to withstand electronic warfare threats. These features are critical for ensuring that the UAV can perform its missions in challenging operational scenarios.

The successful trial was attended by Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, who praised the efforts of the teams involved in advancing unmanned capabilities through both innovation and indigenisation. He emphasized that such technological advancements significantly enhance operational reach, situational awareness, and precision on contemporary battlefields.

This successful validation of the Kharga Chakra is a clear reflection of the Indian Army’s emphasis on Atmanirbharta, or self-reliance, in defense. It strengthens the commitment to developing home-grown solutions in UAV technologies, paving the way for their swifter induction into operational use. This move is expected to bolster India’s defense capabilities further while reducing reliance on foreign technologies.
