In a tragic event, Havildar Gajendra Singh of the elite 2 PARA Special Forces (SF) lost his life during a counter-terrorism operation in the Singpura area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. The operation, known as Operation TRASHI-I, was initiated following specific intelligence inputs indicating the presence of terrorists linked to the Pakistan-based organization Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in the densely forested region near Chatroo.
The operation commenced on the night of January 18-19, 2026, and involved intense confrontations between security forces and the entrenched terrorists. As the security teams approached, they were met with a barrage of grenades and automatic gunfire from the terrorists, who occupied a strategically advantageous position on higher ground. The fierce exchange led to injuries among eight soldiers, primarily due to shrapnel wounds.
Havildar Gajendra Singh demonstrated extraordinary courage during this encounter. While executing his duties, he sustained critical injuries, ultimately succumbing during medical treatment at a military hospital. His determination and leadership were evident as he led the charge against a terrorist hideout that had been operational in the area for the past two to three months.
The White Knight Corps, based in Nagrota, paid tribute to Singh, expressing deep respect for his bravery and sacrifice. A formal statement highlighted the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and all ranks’ solemn acknowledgment of”his indomitable courage, valour, and selfless devotion to duty,” offering their support to his grieving family.
