The National Cadet Corps (NCC) has embarked on an ambitious initiative to enhance digital proficiency and bolster cyber defence skills among its cadets. Collaborating with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), the NCC has launched a nationwide Cyber Security Capacity Building Programme designed to equip young individuals with vital skills in the increasingly critical field of cyber security.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to formalize this initiative, with key figures including DG NCC Virendra Vats and DG NIELIT Madan Mohan Tripathi present during the signing ceremony.

The programme is structured into two distinct phases. The first phase is the Cyber Security Awareness Programme, which consists of a 15-hour online module accessible to all NCC cadets. This phase focuses on enhancing digital literacy, improving cyber hygiene, educating participants about safe internet practices, and increasing awareness of various cyber threats. This training will be offered through the NIELIT Digital University platform, making it easily accessible to cadets nationwide.

The second phase, known as the Cyber Defender Programme, offers a more intensive 60-hour offline training experience for selected cadets based on merit. This programme will include hands-on training, simulations, and practical exposure to various cyber tools and techniques for responding to cyber threats. This phase aims to provide trainees with the real-world skills necessary to tackle cyber challenges effectively.

The overarching objective of the initiative is to cultivate a network of trained NCC Cyber Cadets who are not just proficient in cyber skills but can also act as advocates for cyber awareness in their communities. These cadets will be empowered to promote safe digital practices and contribute to broader national cyber security efforts.

This initiative also aligns seamlessly with several government priorities, including flagship initiatives such as Digital India and the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). By focusing on skill development and cyber preparedness, the programme aims to strengthen India’s competencies in the digital realm.

As cyber threats continue to evolve and grow in complexity, the Cyber Security Capacity Building Programme represents a proactive strategy to prepare India’s youth for the challenges of the digital age. Through this initiative, the NCC aims to ensure that cadets are not only knowledgeable but also equipped with practical skills necessary to navigate and secure the digital landscape effectively.
