The Indian Army has officially released the Territorial Army Officer Notification 2026, inviting applications from gainfully employed Indian citizens who aspire to serve the nation in uniform without leaving their civilian professions. This is a unique opportunity to become a commissioned officer in the Territorial Army and contribute to national defence while continuing a primary career.
The Territorial Army functions on the concept of part-time service, allowing motivated individuals to experience military life alongside their professional commitments. Officers are called for training and can be embodied for active duty based on operational requirements. This dual role enables individuals to serve the country both as civilians and as soldiers.
As per the official notification, the Territorial Army Commission 2026 Computer Based Test (CBT) will be conducted on 12 July 2026. The online application process will begin on 20 April 2026 and will close on 19 May 2026. Candidates must apply through the official website www.indianarmy.nic.in within the specified dates.

The notification announces a total of 12 vacancies, including 11 for male candidates and 1 for female candidates. Selection will be strictly based on merit, and vacancies may vary depending on organisational requirements. It is important to note that the Territorial Army is not a full-time career but a part-time commitment with mandatory training obligations.
To be eligible, candidates must be Indian citizens aged between 18 and 42 years as on 19 May 2026. Applicants must hold a graduate degree from a recognised university, regardless of discipline. Additionally, candidates must be physically and medically fit and, most importantly, gainfully employed at the time of application. Serving personnel from the Regular Armed Forces, Police, Paramilitary forces, and similar organisations are not eligible to apply.
The selection process begins with a Computer Based Test consisting of three sections: Reasoning, General Knowledge, and English. The exam will include 100 questions carrying 100 marks and will be conducted over a duration of two hours. Negative marking of one-third marks will apply for each incorrect answer. The standard of the examination will be at the graduate level.
Candidates who qualify in the CBT will be called for the Service Selection Board (SSB) Interview, where they will undergo a comprehensive assessment including psychological tests, group tasks, and personal interviews. Those recommended by the SSB will then undergo a medical examination. The final merit list will be prepared based on combined performance in the written exam and SSB interview.
The application process is completely online, and candidates must fill out the form IAF (TA)-9 (Revised) through the official website. The application fee is Rs. 500, which must be paid through online modes only and is non-refundable. Candidates are advised to carefully choose their exam centre, as no changes will be allowed after submission.
Once selected and commissioned, Territorial Army officers undergo structured training, including up to six months of pre-commission training, followed by post-commission training and annual training camps. Officers are granted the rank of Lieutenant at the time of commissioning and receive pay and allowances equivalent to Regular Army officers when embodied for training or active duty.
The pay scale starts at Level 10 with a salary range of Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 along with Military Service Pay of Rs. 15,500. Promotions are granted based on time scale up to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, while higher ranks are selection-based. Officers may also be called for extended military service depending on national requirements.
Candidates appearing for the SSB interview must carry all required documents, including educational certificates, identity proof, income proof, employment certificate, and application forms. Proper documentation is crucial for verification and eligibility confirmation.
For effective preparation, candidates should focus on reasoning practice, stay updated with current affairs, improve English language skills, and begin early preparation for SSB tasks. Physical fitness and proper documentation readiness are equally important for success in the selection process.
The Territorial Army Officer Notification 2026 presents a prestigious opportunity for individuals who wish to wear the uniform and serve the nation while continuing their professional careers. With limited vacancies and a competitive selection process, candidates must prepare thoroughly and apply within the given timeline.
