Second Bend Labs Launches Defense Training and Testing Site on Georgia-Florida Border

A new defense training and testing facility has recently been established by Second Bend Labs on the border between Georgia and Florida, marking a significant step in the enhancement of military and law enforcement training capabilities. After nearly six months of initial operations, the site is now fully operational and serves as a multi-domain environment tailored for military units, law enforcement agencies, and defense contractors.

Spanning approximately 8,000 acres, the facility is designed to integrate land, air, and water operations within a controlled environment, thereby offering a comprehensive training ground. The unique location allows for access to restricted airspace, enabling coordinated flight activities that include unmanned aerial systems and counter-drone testing, alongside various ground and maritime scenarios.

One of the key features of this facility is its live-fire range complex, which facilitates tactical training across different weapon systems and operational profiles, simulating real-world combat conditions as closely as possible. The infrastructure includes a 3,000-square-foot hangar equipped with a 20-foot launch pad, as well as specialized briefing rooms that provide a seamless process for preparation, execution, and evaluation of training exercises.

Furthermore, Second Bend Labs has incorporated four bodies of water and about five miles of private river frontage into the facility, enhancing its capability for waterborne operations and the testing of uncrewed maritime systems in conjunction with aerial and ground training activities. This unique configuration allows for a variety of mixed-environment exercises.

To support extended deployments, the facility offers accommodation services, featuring private guest houses that can host up to 45 personnel. Additional amenities include meal services, a gym, and communal spaces designed for team activities and relaxation during training rotations.

The range capabilities of the site support diverse shooting environments, with steel target systems and engagement distances reaching 550 meters, facilitating a wide range of training exercises from close-quarters scenarios to precision rifle operations.

In addition to this extensive training setup, Second Bend Labs is also advancing research on systems that measure physiological and cognitive performance during training sessions. These initiatives include monitoring brain activity and vital signs, aiming to enhance the efficacy of training and prepare personnel for real-world challenges.
