Major General Naveen Kumar Thapliyal has officially taken command of the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT) in Pune as of June 1, 2026, succeeding Rear Admiral V Ganapathy. His extensive career has seen him assume a variety of essential positions, such as Commanding Officer of an EME Battalion, Brigadier Military Secretary at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army), and Major General EME, Central Command. Most recently, he served as Chief of Staff at Headquarters 101 Area.
