Major General J Muthukrishnan has officially taken over as Major General (Medical) at Headquarters South-Western Command, effective June 1, 2026. This significant appointment enhances the senior leadership within the Armed Forces Medical Services.

Maj Gen Muthukrishnan is an esteemed alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune and is recognized as a distinguished Endocrinologist. He brings with him a wealth of experience in military healthcare, medical education, and hospital administration.

Over his distinguished career, he has undertaken several key appointments, which include serving as the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at AFMC Pune and as Colonel (Medical) at Headquarters Strategic Forces Command. In these roles, he made substantial contributions to medical support and healthcare management in high-pressure, operational environments.

His commitment to healthcare was notably evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. Maj Gen Muthukrishnan played a crucial role in the planning and execution of medical management efforts at Base Hospital Delhi Cantonment, a vital institution for Armed Forces healthcare.

Before this new appointment, he served as the Commandant of Military Hospital Pathankot. In this capacity, he significantly improved patient care, medical preparedness, and the overall healthcare delivery within the facility.

Upon his new assignment, Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), extended her congratulations and best wishes to Maj Gen Muthukrishnan for a fruitful tenure.

In his role as MG (Medical) at HQ South-Western Command, he will oversee medical services, provide operational healthcare support, ensure medical preparedness, and promote the welfare of military personnel across the Command.
