Meenatchi Sundaram, a valorous recipient of the Kirti Chakra, during a meeting at the Secretariat. Lance Naik A. Meenatchi Sundaram hails from Kamayagoundanpatti village in Theni district and serves with the 34 Rashtriya Rifles, attached to the Regiment of Artillery. His commendation of the Kirti Chakra was awarded for his extraordinary gallantry during a counter-terrorism operation in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in December 2024. The operation tested the mettle of many, and it was during this intense firefight that Lance Naik Sundaram faced perilous circumstances. Despite sustaining serious injuries from gunfire to his face and shoulder, he exhibited remarkable courage, quick decision-making, and impressive combat skills. In close-quarters confrontation, he successfully neutralized a terrorist, safeguarded his fellow soldiers, and played a crucial role in the operation’s overall success.
In recognition of his valour, he was honored by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on June 8, 2026, during a prestigious Defence Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. His return to his hometown was met with celebrations and immense pride from the local community, underscoring the esteem in which he is held.
