In a significant move to bolster the integrity of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), the Indian Air Force (IAF) has been entrusted with the task of transporting sealed question papers to examination centers nationwide, as part of a comprehensive security strategy.
With the NEET-UG re-test set for June 21 following the cancellation of a previous exam, the government is fully committed to preventing any incidents of tampering, leakage, or logistical disruptions. To this end, IAF transport aircraft and Mi-17 helicopters will be utilized to ensure the secure transfer of examination materials.
Officials have confirmed that sealed question paper packets will be airlifted to around 18 regional hubs across the country. From these strategic locations, the papers will then be delivered to various examination centers under tight security measures and ongoing surveillance.
Particular attention is being given to enhance security in remote and challenging terrains. In such areas, Mi-17 helicopters will facilitate last-mile delivery, minimizing reliance on ground transportation and thereby reducing potential risks associated with the distribution process.
The entire logistics operation is being managed with stringent oversight to maintain a controlled chain of custody, ensuring that every phase of the transportation is monitored to safeguard the confidentiality and security of the examination materials.
This airlift operation is a crucial element of broader security measures rolled out in response to concerns raised following the earlier examination. A close collaboration between defense and education authorities is underway to ensure the re-test is conducted smoothly, reinforcing public confidence in the examination system.
In Tamil Nadu, trial operations have already been executed as part of the preparedness initiatives. A helicopter landing exercise at the Armed Reserve Ground in Tirunelveli was conducted to test logistics and security protocols ahead of the examination.
As per the established plan, question papers will be flown from Delhi to Madurai, and subsequently airlifted by helicopter to Tirunelveli, all under strict security supervision. Mock drills have been performed to evaluate operational readiness and ensure flawless execution.
The inclusion of the Indian Air Force in this endeavour highlights the government’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of national competitive examinations. Utilizing military aviation assets is anticipated to enhance security measures, improve logistical efficiency, and eliminate potential vulnerabilities throughout the transportation process.
This initiative signifies a strong commitment to creating a transparent, secure, and equitable examination environment for the vast number of students preparing to take the NEET-UG re-test across India.
