On November 8, 2026, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Krishna Swaminathan marked Diwali with personnel at a forward operating base and several outlying Indian Navy units in Gujarat.
He met officers and sailors at the forward-deployed establishments, offered festival greetings and praised their dedication, professionalism and work to protect India’s maritime interests. The visit also recognised those serving away from their families during the festival.
Readiness and infrastructure review
Admiral Swaminathan reviewed the units’ operational readiness, including their preparedness, capabilities and infrastructure development plans. The assessment underscored the Navy’s focus on readiness and on strengthening facilities along India’s western maritime frontier.
Gujarat’s extensive coastline, proximity to international maritime boundaries and commercial ports make it significant to India’s maritime security. Naval establishments in the region contribute to coastal surveillance, maritime security and the safeguarding of India’s strategic interests in the Arabian Sea.

Recognising personnel on duty
The festival gathering highlighted the sacrifices of naval personnel who remain at their posts during major occasions. It also reflected the importance the Navy places on camaraderie, unity, leadership, morale and the welfare of personnel serving in demanding operational environments.
The visit brought together a review of naval readiness and infrastructure with recognition of the officers and sailors serving along the western maritime frontier. It reinforced the Navy’s focus on operational excellence, infrastructure modernisation and maritime security.
