In a remarkable display of courage and tactical skill, Major Leishangthem Deepak Singh of the 11th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment Special Forces, successfully led a hostage rescue operation in Longding district, Arunachal Pradesh, on April 25, 2025. His efforts resulted in the safe recovery of two construction workers who had been abducted by insurgents from the NSCN (KYA) faction.
Honored for his bravery, Major Singh was awarded the Shaurya Chakra, India’s third-highest peacetime gallantry award. President Droupadi Murmu presented this prestigious recognition during the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2026 Phase-I at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, on June 8, 2026.
