Bonn Climate Conference 2026 (SB64)
The Bonn Climate Conference 2026, officially known as the 64th Sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB64) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), commenced in Bonn, Germany, from 8 to 18 June 2026. The conference serves as an important mid-year platform where countries discuss technical and policy matters related to global climate action before the annual Conference of Parties (COP).
A key focus of this year’s discussions is the urgent need for stronger climate adaptation measures and increased financial assistance for developing and climate-vulnerable nations. Health experts and climate advocates have emphasized that climate change is placing immense pressure on healthcare systems, food security, and livelihoods across the world.
The Global Climate and Health Alliance (GCHA) has urged governments to significantly expand public adaptation finance. The alliance has proposed increasing annual adaptation funding to at least 120 billion US dollars by 2035, nearly three times the target agreed upon during COP26. According to experts, adequate adaptation financing is essential to help vulnerable communities prepare for and respond to the growing impacts of climate change.
Another major theme of the conference is the concept of a “Just Transition,” which seeks to ensure that the shift towards a low-carbon economy is fair, inclusive, and beneficial for workers and communities. The outcomes of the Bonn negotiations are expected to influence discussions at COP31, which will be held in Antalya later this year.

Fitch Lowers India’s FY27 Growth Forecast to 6.4%
Global credit rating agency Fitch Ratings has revised India’s GDP growth forecast for Fiscal Year 2027 from 6.7 percent to 6.4 percent. The announcement was made on 9 June 2026 as part of the agency’s updated global economic outlook.
India recorded a GDP growth rate of 7.4 percent during FY26. Although the revised forecast still indicates strong economic performance compared to many major economies, it reflects expectations of slower growth amid global economic uncertainties.
Fitch also lowered its global growth projection for 2026 to 2.4 percent. One of the major concerns highlighted by the agency is rising inflation driven by higher energy prices. The agency expects India’s inflation rate to reach 5.3 percent by the end of 2026 due to an anticipated oil supply shock.
Fitch has increased its forecast for Brent crude oil prices to an average of 87 US dollars per barrel in 2026, compared to its earlier estimate of 70 dollars per barrel. Higher energy costs could affect household purchasing power and business expenses.
Despite these challenges, Fitch believes that domestic demand will continue to be the primary driver of India’s economic growth. Consumption, government spending, and business investment are expected to support economic activity, while lower imports may contribute positively to net external demand.
The agency also expects the Reserve Bank of India to raise its policy rate from 5.25 percent to 5.5 percent during the year to address inflationary pressures.
