Narendra Modi Becomes India’s Longest Continuously Serving Prime Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi created a historic record on 10 June 2026 by becoming India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister. With 4,399 consecutive days in office, he surpassed the record previously held by Jawaharlal Nehru.

Narendra Modi assumed office on 26 May 2014 after leading the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to a decisive victory in the Lok Sabha elections. Since then, he has remained in office without interruption, making his tenure one of the longest in the history of democratic governance.

Jawaharlal Nehru served continuously as Prime Minister from 13 May 1952 until his death on 27 May 1964. Another prominent long-serving Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, held office continuously from 24 January 1966 to 24 March 1977.

This achievement reflects Modi’s sustained electoral success, political influence, and leadership over more than a decade.

El Niño Returns in 2026

Global climate monitoring agencies have reported the development of a new El Niño event in the equatorial Pacific Ocean. Scientists believe that the phenomenon could intensify significantly during the latter half of 2026 and may even develop into a “Super El Niño.”

The Japan Meteorological Agency has officially confirmed the onset of El Niño, marking the first such event since 2023.

El Niño is a naturally occurring climate phenomenon characterized by unusually warm sea-surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. These temperature changes alter atmospheric circulation patterns and influence weather systems across the globe.

Key Features of El Niño

  • Warmer-than-normal Pacific Ocean temperatures
  • Altered global rainfall patterns
  • Increased risk of floods and droughts
  • Disturbances in monsoon systems
  • Changes in tropical cyclone activity
  • Rise in global average temperatures

What is a Super El Niño?

The intensity of El Niño is measured by the extent to which Pacific Ocean temperatures exceed normal levels. When the temperature anomaly exceeds 2°C, the event is generally classified as a “Super El Niño.”

Such events can trigger severe weather disturbances worldwide, affecting agriculture, water resources, and economies.
