World Heart Day 2026
- World Heart Day is observed every year on 29 September to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), their risk factors and preventive measures.
- The 2026 theme is “Don’t Miss a Beat.”
- The campaign highlights the importance of preventing cardiovascular diseases, detecting them early and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
- According to the source, WHO identifies tobacco use, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity and hypertension among the major risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.
- Cardiovascular disease is described as the leading cause of death globally, accounting for approximately 1 in 3 deaths.
- Up to 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke are stated to be preventable.
- World Heart Day promotes international action through activities such as community walkathons, health awareness programmes and cardiac screenings.
India Energy Week 2027
- India Energy Week (IEW) 2027 will be held in Kolkata from 28 to 31 January 2027.

- It is organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.

Vithya Ramraj Breaks PT Usha’s Record
- Indian athlete Vithya Ramraj won the bronze medal in the women’s 400m hurdles at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya.
- She recorded an individual best time of 54.75 seconds.
- Her performance broke the Indian national record of 55.42 seconds, which had been held by PT Usha for 42 years.
- PT Usha had established the record during the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
- Mariam Kareem of the UAE won gold with an Asian Games record of 54.31 seconds.
- Adelina Zems of Kazakhstan won silver in 54.58 seconds.
- Vithya had also won bronze in the same event at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
Bodhana Sivanandan Becomes Youngest to Meet WGM Criteria
- Bodhana Sivanandan, an 11-year-old Indian-born chess player representing England, became the youngest player to fulfil the criteria for the title of Woman Grandmaster (WGM).
- She achieved her third and final WGM norm at the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
- Bodhana represented England on Board 1 and scored 8 points out of 11 games.
- FIDE announced her achievement during the Chess Olympiad.
- Before Bodhana, the youngest player to obtain the WGM title was Kateryna Lagno, who achieved it at the age of 12.
- Former Women’s World Champion Hou Yifan also obtained the WGM title at the age of 12 and later became the youngest woman to earn the GM title at 14.
Neeru Dhanda Wins Women’s Trap Gold
- Indian shooter Neeru Dhanda won the women’s individual trap gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya.
- Her victory gave India its fifth gold medal of the Games.
- In the eight-shooter final, Dhanda scored 26 points, finishing ahead of Sun Yunong of China and Hajar Abdulmalik of Kuwait, who scored 21 points each.
- After 25 shots, Dhanda led with 23 hits. Hajar was subsequently eliminated, leaving Dhanda and Sun Yunong to compete for gold.
- Dhanda had earlier won silver in the women’s trap team event along with Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer.
- Following her individual gold, India’s Asian Games 2026 medal tally stood at 47 medals: 5 gold, 21 silver and 21 bronze.
India Issues First PRAMAAN Certificates
- India issued its first PRAMAAN certificates under the Indian Forest and Wood Certification Scheme (IFWCS) on 29 September 2026.
- The certificates were presented to the Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation and a bamboo farmer from Odisha.
- The Indian Forest and Wood Certification Scheme was launched in December 2023 by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
- The scheme is branded as PRAMAAN and is intended to certify forest and wood-based value chains in India.
- PRAMAAN is linked to sustainable forest management, agroforestry and responsible practices in wood-based industries.
- Andhra Pradesh is set to become the first state to receive PRAMAAN certification for environmentally sustainable cultivation practices.
- The certification process covered around 33,000 hectares of eucalyptus plantations managed by the Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation.
- The scheme is also aligned with the National Working Plan Code 2023 and international market requirements such as the European Union Deforestation Regulation.
- As of 28 February 2026, pre-audits covered 7.76 lakh hectares under Forest Management certification and 10.78 thousand hectares under Trees Outside Forests certification.
