Officers undergoing the Defence Services Staff Course at the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, visited the Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps in Sikkim on November 2, 2026. The interaction was aimed at helping the student officers understand the operational environment and the wider regional security context from a field commander’s perspective.
Interaction with the GOC
During the visit, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Trishakti Corps met the visiting officers and discussed the evolving regional security landscape, operational challenges and strategic considerations linked to the Corps’ area of responsibility. The exchange gave the officers an opportunity to hear directly from a senior commander working in the region.
The visit also allowed the student officers to move beyond classroom-based learning and observe operational realities in a strategically important area. Such engagement is intended to strengthen professional understanding of military leadership, operational planning and security-related challenges.

Professional exposure beyond the classroom
The interaction created a forum for discussion between officers undergoing advanced military training and senior field commanders. According to the report, this kind of engagement helps deepen awareness of how operational planning and leadership are shaped by ground-level conditions.
The Defence Services Staff College at Wellington is one of India’s premier military training institutions and prepares officers of the Indian Armed Forces and friendly foreign countries for higher command and staff responsibilities. The visit to Trishakti Corps reflected the Indian Army’s emphasis on combining academic military education with practical exposure to operational environments.
