New Delhi hosted the Army Aviation Annual Flight Safety Conference 2026 on Monday, as the Indian Army brought together representatives from the three Armed Services and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) at the Manekshaw Centre to focus on flight safety, risk reduction and operational best practices.
Focus on safety coordination
The conference was positioned as a forum for closer coordination among the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy and aviation manufacturers. The aim was to discuss ways to improve flight safety standards and support the operational effectiveness of Army Aviation.
Participants reviewed a range of aviation safety issues, including risk mitigation strategies, operational challenges and methods that can help make flying operations safer. The discussions placed particular emphasis on building a proactive safety culture and identifying risks before they lead to incidents.

Role of industry participation
The presence of OEMs underscored the value of cooperation between military aviation users and the defence aviation industry. Such engagement allows technical exchanges on aircraft performance, maintenance practices, equipment reliability and possible safety improvements.

Army Aviation remains important to Indian Army operations, especially in high-altitude areas, remote border regions and difficult operational environments. Its helicopters are used for reconnaissance, surveillance, troop transportation, casualty evacuation, logistics support and other operational tasks.
Operational readiness and risk reduction
Because Army Aviation operates in demanding conditions, maintaining strong flight safety standards is essential for mission readiness, protecting personnel and preserving aviation assets. The conference reflected a shared commitment by the Armed Services and industry stakeholders to strengthen India’s military aviation safety ecosystem through continuous learning, improved coordination and exchange of operational experience.
The deliberations also reinforced the need to build safety considerations into everyday aviation activity while preserving the high operational preparedness expected of the Indian Armed Forces. The Army Aviation Annual Flight Safety Conference 2026 concluded with renewed emphasis on risk reduction, operational excellence and a proactive safety culture across Army Aviation formations.
