The Indian Navy has released the official notification for the 10+2 (B.Tech) Cadet Entry Scheme (Permanent Commission) for the course commencing January 2027. Applications are invited from unmarried male and female candidates who wish to serve as Permanent Commissioned Officers in the Technical Branches of the Indian Navy. The online application window opens on 29 May 2026 and closes on 18 June 2026.

Overview

Under this scheme, selected candidates will undergo a four-year B.Tech programme at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, one of the most prestigious military training institutions in Asia. On successful completion, candidates are awarded a B.Tech degree by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and are commissioned as Permanent Commissioned Officers in the Indian Navy’s Technical Branch.

  • A maximum of 08 vacancies are reserved for women – 04 each in Mechanical Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering.
  • Out of the Mechanical Engineering stream, 07 candidates will be streamed into B.Tech in Naval Architecture & Shipbuilding at NCW, Kochi, based on merit and performance during training.
  • Candidates must indicate their branch preference (Mechanical or Electronics & Communication Engineering) at the time of online application.

Age Eligibility

Candidates must have been born between 02 July 2007 and 01 January 2010 (both dates inclusive).

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 pattern) or an equivalent examination from a recognised Board.
  • Minimum 70% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) are required.
  • Minimum 50% marks in English – either in Class X or Class XII.

Who Can Apply

Candidates who have appeared for JEE (Main) 2026 (for B.E./B.Tech) are eligible to apply. Shortlisting for the SSB interview will be done on the basis of the JEE (Main) All India Common Rank List (CRL) – 2026 published by NTA. Candidates must fill in their CRL rank in the application form.

Selection Procedure

  • Naval Headquarters will fix a cut-off based on JEE (Main) CRL 2026 for shortlisting candidates for SSB interviews.
  • SSB interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held at Bengaluru, Bhopal, Kolkata, and Visakhapatnam from September 2026 onwards.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be intimated via email and SMS. Candidates are advised not to change their registered email ID or mobile number until the selection process is complete.
  • Change of SSB centre is not permitted under any circumstances.
  • AC 3-tier rail fare is admissible for candidates appearing for SSB for the first time for this type of commission.
  • The final merit list will be prepared based on SSB marks and medical fitness. Appointment is subject to Police Verification and Character Verification.

Medical Standards

All SSB-recommended candidates must undergo a medical examination as per the standards applicable to the 10+2 (B.Tech) entry. Candidates already declared medically fit for NDA/INA Jan 2027 are exempt from repeat medical examination. There is no relaxation in medical standards on any grounds, and a change of medical hospital or centre is not permitted.

Training Details

  • Selected candidates will be inducted as Cadets for the four-year B.Tech course at INA, Ezhimala, in Electronics & Communication Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (with select candidates streamed into Naval Architecture & Shipbuilding).
  • The entire cost of training, including books, reading material, clothing, and messing, will be borne by the Indian Navy.
  • On completion of training, candidates are awarded a B.Tech degree from JNU and commissioned as officers.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the official Indian Navy recruitment website: www.joinindiannavy.gov.in
  2. Register and fill in the online application form carefully.
  3. Ensure all personal details match your Matriculation/Class 12 certificate exactly.
  4. Fill in email address and mobile number – these are mandatory fields.
  5. Scan and upload the following documents in JPG/TIFF format:
    • Date of Birth proof (10th/12th certificate)
    • Class 10 marksheet
    • Class 12 marksheet
    • JEE (Main) 2026 Score Card indicating CRL
    • Recent passport-size colour photograph
  6. Take a printout of the submitted application and carry it along with original documents to the SSB interview.

Note: Once submitted, the application is final and no amendments will be entertained. Multiple applications by the same candidate will lead to cancellation of candidature.

Key Points to Remember

  • Only unmarried candidates are eligible. Any candidate found married during training will be discharged and required to refund the full cost of training.
  • Use or possession of narcotics is banned and candidates may be tested at any stage – SSB, medicals, training, or service.
  • Inclusion in the merit list does not guarantee appointment; all vacancies are filled as per service requirements.
  • Applications are subject to scrutiny and can be rejected if found ineligible at any point.
