Lieutenant General Sandeep Singh, AVSM, has assumed the role of Commandant at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Gaya, ushering in a new era of leadership at one of the Indian Army’s essential pre-commission training establishments. His appointment has been warmly welcomed by Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Army Training Command, as well as by all ranks of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC).
The OTA Gaya is crucial in preparing officer cadets for their commissioned roles within the Indian Army. The institution emphasizes discipline, leadership, physical fitness, military values, and professional competence. General Singh is expected to intensify the academy’s training framework to ensure it continues to fulfill its mission of developing future military leaders.
In his first days, Lieutenant General R.S. Sundaram, the Director General of Recruiting, visited OTA Gaya to engage with General Singh. Their discussions concentrated on understanding the quality, expectations, and aspirations of new recruits joining the Armed Forces, particularly in light of evolving generational mindsets among candidates from Generation Z.
The duo focused on enhancing the recruitment and induction processes to ensure the Army attracts and develops high-caliber officer cadets. They emphasized the importance of keeping the recruitment strategy transparent, efficient, and aspirant-friendly, adapting to the changing profiles of young candidates.
During this visit, General Sundaram also held a session with the cadets currently at the academy. This interaction provided a platform for cadets to offer feedback on their experiences throughout the recruitment journey, including the online application process, the Services Selection Board assessments, and their reporting experiences at the Pre-Commission Training Academy.
Feedback from cadets highlighted several challenges encountered during various stages of recruitment and induction. The discussions aimed at identifying solutions to streamline these processes, enhancing the overall experience for candidates from initial registration through to final induction.
This initiative underscores the Directorate General of Recruiting’s ongoing commitment to candidate-centric practices while upholding the rigorous standards necessary for officer selection in the Indian Army.
