Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, the Director General of Assam Rifles, addressed all personnel during the Quarterly Sainik Sammelan held at the Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles (HQ DGAR) in Laitkor, Shillong, on June 30, 2026.
In his address, Lt Gen Lakhera emphasized the critical importance of maintaining professionalism and discipline within the ranks. He highlighted the necessity for operational preparedness, urging troops to stay informed about the changing landscape of global security. This call to vigilance comes at a time of increasing complexity in security challenges around the world.
Additionally, the Director General informed the troops about the Force’s recommendations to the 8th Pay Commission, which are anticipated to bring about significant changes in compensation and benefits for the soldiers. He also introduced new promotion policies designed to enhance career progression opportunities for all ranks within the Assam Rifles.
Recognizing the need for responsible engagement with technology, Lt Gen Lakhera encouraged personnel to exercise caution in their use of social media, reinforcing the importance of maintaining the integrity and reputation of the Force in the digital realm.
To acknowledge outstanding service and commitment, he took the time to felicitate the ‘Soldiers of the Month’ and presented DG’s Commendation Cards to selected personnel for their exceptional performance and dedication. In his closing remarks, he urged all ranks to continuously strive for excellence and uphold the proud traditions of the Assam Rifles as they carry out their vital role in safeguarding the nation’s security.
