Agra saw a notable step in defence sustainment efforts on November 6, 2026, when Lieutenant General Amardeep Singh Aujla, Master General of Sustenance (MGS), inaugurated the modernised Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) Regional Product Support Centre (RPSC) at the Central Ordnance Depot (COD), Agra. The upgraded centre is intended to bolster the Indian Army’s indigenous maintenance and repair capacity and support operational readiness.
What has changed at the centre
The facility has been updated with specialised repair infrastructure for servicing critical military equipment. Among the additions are nitrogen purging systems, an Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)-compatible laboratory and a specialised clean room. These features are meant to allow technicians to handle sensitive repair and maintenance tasks in controlled conditions.
According to the report, the improvements are expected to make repairs to optical instruments and communication equipment more efficient and reliable. They are also meant to cut down repair turnaround times so that essential equipment can return to operational use faster.
Training and support implications
Beyond repair work, the modernised centre is also expected to aid technical training and skill development for maintenance personnel. With access to newer repair technologies and dedicated infrastructure, the facility is positioned to help build indigenous expertise in maintaining sophisticated defence equipment.

The upgrade reflects the broader push within India’s defence ecosystem to strengthen domestic maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities. Such facilities can reduce reliance on external repair support, improve equipment availability and support the long-term sustainability of military systems.
Role of BEL and coordination with the Army
Bharat Electronics Limited, a public sector defence electronics company under the Ministry of Defence, supplies and supports electronic systems used by the Indian Armed Forces. The systems mentioned in the report include communication equipment, surveillance technologies and other mission-critical platforms.
The upgraded facility at Central Ordnance Depot, Agra, is expected to strengthen cooperation between the Indian Army and BEL in providing lifecycle support for defence equipment. The initiative also aligns with the Indian Army’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat and indigenisation, as stated in the report.
With better repair infrastructure, improved technical expertise and lower equipment downtime, the centre is expected to contribute to sustained operational preparedness and the Army’s wider modernisation and self-reliance goals.
