Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Indian Army’s Northern Command, travelled to the general area of Reasi in Jammu and Kashmir on November 2, 2026, to assess operational readiness and review the security situation on the ground.
The visit brought together representatives from intelligence and other security agencies, indicating a coordinated review of the security environment in the hinterland. The discussions centered on ongoing counter-terrorism operations, better intelligence sharing and closer cooperation among agencies involved in maintaining security.
Lt Gen Sharma received a detailed briefing from military commanders and security officials on the operational situation, the steps being taken against terrorist activity and the measures in place to prevent further threats. The review also examined the effectiveness of the current security grid and areas where surveillance, intelligence coordination and operational response could be improved.

Focus on coordination and threat response
A key part of the assessment involved joint intelligence frameworks meant to improve information flow between the Indian Army, intelligence organisations and other security agencies. According to the report, such coordination is intended to help identify possible threats early, support timely responses and preserve a strong counter-terrorism posture in sensitive areas.

The Army Commander stressed the need for close synergy among all stakeholders engaged in security operations. The discussions underlined coordinated planning, effective intelligence sharing and sustained operational vigilance as necessary elements in dealing with emerging security challenges.

Reasi district is described as strategically important in the Jammu region because of its difficult terrain, large forested stretches and connectivity with adjoining districts. Maintaining an effective security network in such conditions requires continuous monitoring, intelligence-led operations and close cooperation between military and civilian security agencies.
Ground-level preparedness in the hinterland
The review also highlighted the need to keep forces operationally ready in the hinterland, where personnel must be prepared to respond to threats while working in difficult geographical and operational conditions.
During his interaction with troops, Lt Gen Sharma commended their commitment to duty, their operational preparedness and their professionalism in demanding circumstances. He also appreciated the dedication and resilience shown by personnel involved in maintaining security and carrying out counter-terrorism operations in the region.
The visit reflects the Northern Command’s continued emphasis on operational preparedness, intelligence-led counter-terrorism efforts and coordinated security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir.
By reviewing ground-level readiness and reinforcing inter-agency cooperation, the Indian Army is seeking to maintain an effective security posture and ensure that its troops remain prepared to deal with evolving security challenges in the region.
