Ludhiana hosted a large veterans’ gathering on November 2, 2026, as the Indian Army’s Vajra Corps, under the aegis of Western Command, organised the Punjab State Ex-Servicemen Rally. The event brought together veterans, Veer Naris, Veer Matas and military families in a show of recognition for their service and continued bond with the Army.
Held under the theme “Once a Soldier, Always Our Own – A Bond Beyond Service,” the rally focused on honouring the lifelong connection between the Indian Army and its former personnel. According to the report, the occasion was meant to acknowledge courage, sacrifice and selfless service to the nation.
Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh attends the rally
Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh, AVSM, SM**, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, attended the event and felicitated distinguished veterans for their contributions. He also met Veer Naris, Veer Matas and military families, recognising their sacrifices and their continued association with the armed forces.
In his address, the Army Commander referred to Punjab’s martial heritage and reiterated the Indian Army’s commitment to the dignity, welfare and well-being of veterans and their families. He also urged the youth of Punjab to stay away from drugs and to adopt a life built on discipline, physical fitness and national service.

Services offered through Seva Shivirs
A key feature of the rally was the setting up of four dedicated Seva Shivirs — Sampark, Sanjeevani, Rojgar and Sahuliyat. These centres brought multiple services together, including healthcare assistance, pension-related support, employment opportunities and welfare services for ex-servicemen and their dependants.

The initiative also gave veterans and their families a direct channel to meet concerned authorities, seek help and access welfare schemes intended to support life after retirement from military service.
Message to the veteran community
The rally was presented as part of the Army’s continuing effort to stay connected with its veteran community and to ensure recognition and support for those who have served. It ended with a message highlighting the service ethos and responsibility of the force: “Their Service is Our Legacy. Their Dignity is Our Duty. Their Welfare is Our Commitment.”
