At the Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Pune, Lieutenant General Rajiv Kumar Sahni, Director General of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (DGEME), spoke to officers in training about keeping military forces effective while technology changes at speed.
He met participants from the Defence Services Technical Staff Course (DSTSC-09), including International Student Officers (ISOs), the Naval Technical Staff Course (NTSC-44), and the Indian Naval Armament Service Officers Foundation Course (INASOFC-14).
His lecture, titled “Sustaining Operational Effectiveness amidst Rapid Technology Transformation,” focused on the strain created when new technologies develop faster than the usual pace of defence equipment procurement and induction.

The senior Indian Army officer said the gap between innovation and acquisition must be addressed through constant innovation, better equipment sustenance, and maintenance methods that can adapt to changing requirements.

He also underlined that combat power has to be regenerated and preserved, and treated equipment availability, reliability, and operational readiness as central to military effectiveness.
According to his remarks, predictive maintenance, supply chain resilience, and agile and adaptive sustenance mechanisms are important enablers for keeping modern military equipment operational.
He further called for forward-looking maintenance planning and stronger logistical support systems so that the armed forces can respond effectively to emerging operational challenges.

The interaction gave officers undergoing technical and professional military courses a practical perspective on the role of technology-driven maintenance, logistics, and equipment management in present-day military operations.
The address reflected the Indian Armed Forces’ emphasis on technological adaptability, innovation, and sustainable operational capability in a complex security environment.
