Lieutenant General VMB Krishnan, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Indian Army’s Eastern Command, visited Ramgarh Cantonment in Jharkhand on October 15, 2026 and inspected the ongoing Agniveer training at the Punjab Regimental Centre.
The visit placed focus on the training environment at the regimental centre, which is one of the formations involved in preparing new recruits for service in the Indian Army.
According to the report, Lt Gen Krishnan expressed appreciation for the way the Punjab Regimental Centre is sustaining high training standards while preparing Agniveers for operational demands.
The article said the inspection reflected the Army’s continuing emphasis on producing soldiers who are professionally capable, physically fit and disciplined through organised military training programmes.
The Punjab Regimental Centre at Ramgarh is described as the place where recruits receive basic military training, including Agniveers, with instruction focused on physical fitness, discipline, weapon handling, fieldcraft and other core soldiering skills.
Beyond the training review, the Army Commander also noted the initiatives taken for the holistic development of Ramgarh Cantonment under the Trinity Area.
These development efforts were presented as part of the Indian Army’s broader approach to strengthening military infrastructure, improving training facilities and supporting a conducive environment for personnel and their families.

Under the Agnipath recruitment scheme, introduced in 2022, young men and women can serve in the Indian Armed Forces as Agniveers for an initial period of four years, and centres such as the Punjab Regimental Centre are responsible for turning them into trained soldiers.

The inspection by Lt Gen Krishnan was also portrayed as an acknowledgement of the work done by instructors and other personnel at the centre in shaping the next generation of Indian Army soldiers.
Overall, the visit underlined the Eastern Command’s stated priorities of training excellence, infrastructure development and maintaining high professional standards across its establishments.
