Who Major General Bhanwala is
Major General Bhanwala is an Indian Army officer on deputation to the NSG. In his current role as IG (Operations), he is responsible for operational planning and execution within the force. Before joining the NSG assignment, he commanded the 26 Infantry Division, also known as Tiger Division, in the Jammu region.
During that earlier tenure, he oversaw flood relief and restoration work under Operation Rahat in 2025 and also visited veterans, including Honorary Captain Bana Singh, PVC. He handed over command of the division around early November 2025. In July 2026, he had also called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Jammu as part of official engagements.

Context around the NSG and the Jammu meeting
The National Security Guard is India’s specialised counter-terrorism force under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It is trained and equipped for high-risk operations, and the source notes that the force has previously been deployed in the Jammu region to support local security agencies when threat perceptions were elevated.
The meeting took place as the Darbar Move has resumed, with government offices shifted to Jammu, and as administrative reviews continue on development works and winter preparedness. According to the source, such meetings between senior security officers and the elected leadership of the Union Territory are part of routine coordination on security matters.
