About NDA & CDS Examinations

The National Defence Academy (NDA) examination is conducted for students who have completed or are appearing in Class 12. Through NDA, candidates can join the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy.

The Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination is conducted for graduates who wish to join prestigious military academies such as:

  • Indian Military Academy
  • Indian Naval Academy
  • Air Force Academy
  • Officers Training Academy

Both exams test candidates on academic knowledge, reasoning ability, English, and general awareness.


NDA 2 2026 Exam Pattern

Covers broad subjects of study standard to the UPSC syllabus.

  • Physics: Mechanics (mass, weight, force, motion), heat, sound, light, magnetism, electricity, and static/current electricity.
  • Chemistry: Physical and chemical changes, acids, bases, salts, oxidation, and basic organic/inorganic chemistry.
  • General Science: Basics of life sciences, human body, cell physiology, and general environmental awareness.
  • History & Civics: Indian Freedom Movement, Indian Constitution, salient features of administration, and major historical events.
  • Geography: Earth, its shape and properties, latitudes/longitudes, ocean currents, and the natural resources & geography of India.
  • Current Affairs: Important national and international events, prominent personalities, cultural events, and recent developments in sports and science.
