In a powerful address during the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorations at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh underscored India’s enhanced military capabilities evidenced by the success of Operation Sindoor. He emphasized that India’s response to any future misadventures by Pakistan would be of overwhelming force, specifically declaring that any dialogue with Pakistan would revolve around Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), which he reiterated is an integral part of India.
“Our ability to respond decisively has been clearly demonstrated,” Singh stated, confidently asserting that India is prepared to meet aggression from Pakistan with a level of severity that surpasses what they may anticipate. He remarked on the changing dynamics between the two nations since the Kargil War, asserting that while India has progressed through technological advancements, Pakistan has perpetuated a cycle of terrorism.
The Defence Minister drew stark contrasts, illustrating that while India is innovating in fields like semiconductor design and space exploration, Pakistan is engaged in fostering terrorism and infiltration. He highlighted India’s accomplishments in establishing a vibrant start-up ecosystem contrasted by Pakistan’s alleged nurturing of terrorist networks.
Furthermore, Singh assured that the Armed Forces have complete operational autonomy to counter any threats they face, expressing confidence that no adversary would challenge India while its military remains vigilant on all fronts. He offered heartfelt tributes to soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil War, particularly honoring heroes like Captain Vikram Batra and Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey. This day, he noted, stands as an inspiration for India’s youth and reinforces the core values of sacrifice and service foundational to a robust nation.
The Defence Minister also touched upon the broader implications of contemporary global conflicts, suggesting that modern warfare tests the resilience and determination of entire nations, urging every Indian to embody a “soldier-like consciousness.” He underscored that contributing to national security is not solely the responsibility of those in uniform.
On a forward-looking note, Singh articulated the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, emphasizing that it demands comprehensive commitments to national security, strategic strength, and cultural pride—all critical components in shaping India’s future. He reiterated the government’s dedication to strengthening border infrastructure and modernizing the Armed Forces, asserting that the lessons from the Kargil War remain integral to current defense strategies.
He invoked the iconic battle cry of Captain Vikram Batra, “Yeh Dil Maange More,” to symbolize India’s determination toward self-reliance in defense manufacturing. Singh highlighted that while a majority of defense equipment was imported when the government first took office, approximately 65% is now domestically produced. Notable achievements in indigenous defense include systems such as the Akash missile and INS Vikrant, among others, with ongoing development of next-generation technologies specified as key to future readiness.
Earlier in the day, Rajnath Singh participated in solemn rituals at the Kargil War Memorial, laying a wreath and observing a moment of silence for those who made the ultimate sacrifice. His ceremony included interactions with soldiers, veterans, and families as part of a series of commemorative events, which also featured the signing of the Visitors’ Book and the initiation of a motorcycle rally from New Delhi to honor the Kargil heroes.
In parallel events in New Delhi, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth joined military leaders in paying homage at the National War Memorial, collectively remembering those who served with valor in defense of the nation.
