One Year Completes for Launch of PMFME Scheme
- The Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme, launched under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, completed its one year on 29th June.
- The PMFME Scheme is currently being implemented in 35 States and Union Territories (UTs).
- Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) will be the Nodal Agency.
Not-for-Profit Hospital Model Study: NITI Aayog
- NITI Aayog has released a comprehensive study on the not-for-profit hospital model in the country, in a step towards closing the information gap on such institutions and facilitating robust policymaking in this area.
- The “Not-for-Profit” Hospital Sector has the reputation of providing affordable and accessible healthcare for many years.
- As per the NITI Aayog’s report, the not-for-profit hospitals account for only 1.1% of treated ailments as of June 2018.
- The report further revealed that for-profit hospitals account for 55.3% of in-patients, while not-for-profit hospitals account for only 2.7% of in-patients in the country.
New Species of Tree Discovered in Andaman
- Recently, Pyrostria laljii, a new species which belongs to the genus of the coffee family has recently been discovered from the Andaman Islands.
- This Critically Endangered Species in Red List of IUCN is the first such record in India. It is a 15-meter-tall tree.
- Andaman and Nicobar are a group of 572 islands and islets that are rich and unique in terms of plant diversity in India.
NATRAX-High Speed Track Inaugurated in MP
- Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises inaugurated NATRAX- the High-Speed Track in Pithampur, Indore (Madhya Pradesh).
- High Speed Track is used for measuring the maximum speed capability of high-end cars like BMW, Mercedes etc. which cannot be measured on any of the Indian test tracks.
- It is a world class 11.3 km High Speed Track. The track is the longest in Asia and the fifth largest in the world.
Delimitation Commission to visit Jammu & Kashmir
- Delimitation Commission under the Chairpersonship of Justice (Retd.) Mrs. Ranjana Prakash Desai, in the presence of Shri Sushil Chandra, CEC has decided to visit the UT of J&K from 6th to 9th July.
- Delimitation literally means the act or process of fixing limits or boundaries of territorial constituencies in a country to represent changes in population.
- The Delimitation Commission is appointed by the President of India and works in collaboration with the Election Commission of India.
- How is delimitation carried out?
- Under Article 82, the Parliament enacts a Delimitation Act after every Census. Under Article 170, States also get divided into territorial constituencies.
- Delimitation Commissions have been set up four times – 1952, 1963, 1973.
- There was no delimitation after the 1981 and 1991 Censuses.
- In the 2009 General elections, 499 out of total 543 Parliamentary constituencies were newly delimited constituencies.
PM lauds GST on its completion of 4 years
- The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a value-added tax levied on most goods and services sold for domestic consumption.
- GST was implemented in India from1st July 2017.
National Doctors Day to Be Celebrated
- The day also marks the birth and death anniversary of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy who was one of the most renowned physicians in the country.
- The Indian Medical Association (IMA) observed the first National Doctor’s Day in July 1991.
