105MM Light Field Guns used for the First Time for Independence Day
For the first time this year, indigenous 105MM Light Field Guns were used for the ceremonial gun salute at Delhi’s iconic Red Fort during the 77th Independence Day celebrations on Tuesday. The gun was used for the first time earlier this year in a 21-gun salute at the Republic Day parade. Indian armaments have taken the place of British 25-pounder guns.
Notably, the 21-gun salute is carried out by a specially manufactured cartridge or blank round that is used to simulate firing rather than actual shells being fired. The Guard of Honour was presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by the Armed Forces and the Delhi Police prior to the hoisting of the National flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
This was followed by Prime Minister Modi’s 10th consecutive address to the nation. The Indian Air Force’s two Advanced Light Helicopters Mark-III Dhruv showered flower petals on the venue as soon as the Prime Minister hoisted the national flag. The theme for the year is “Nation First, Always First,” which is also part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” commemoration for the 77th anniversary of India’s independence.
