Indian Army Conducts First-Ever Hackathon

  • Hackathon was conducted at the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE), Mhow under the overall guidance of the Shimla based Army Training Command (ARTRAC).
    • Cyber enthusiasts from across the country took part in the event, with substantial response from rural and remote areas.
    • General MM Naravane felicitated the winners of the Hackathon during an online ceremony.

About Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE)

  • MCTE is the engineering training establishment for the Corps of Signals, established in 1911 of the Indian Army. It is located near Indore, in the town formerly known as Mhow.
    • The present commandant is Lt Gen M Unnikrishnan Nair.
    • Indian army had set up a quantum computing lab and artificial intelligence
    • with the support of the National security council.
    • About Army Training Command (ARTRAC)
    • The Army Training Command, abbreviated as ARTRAC, is one of the seven commands of the Indian Army. It is currently based in Shimla.
    • It was established in 1991.
    • Lieutenant General Raj Shukla, YSM, SM is the present commander.

Schools Bands to Perform At National War Memorial

  • School bands will now perform at the National War Memorial in New Delhi on a regular rotation basis. A decision to this effect has been jointly taken by the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Education.
  • The objective of this initiative is to inculcate the values of patriotism, devotion to duty, courage & sacrifice among the school children
  • About National War Memorial
  • Inaugurated in 2019, it is around 400 meters from India Gate.
  • The layout of the structure comprises four concentric circles, named:
  • the “Amar Chakra” or Circle of Immortality,
  • the “Veerta Chakra” or Circle of Bravery,
  • the “Tyag Chakra” or Circle of Sacrifice and
  • the “Rakshak Chakra” or Circle of Protection.
  • The proposal for a National War Memorial was first made in the 1960s.
  • The memorial is dedicated to soldiers who laid down their lives defending the nation during the Sino-Indian war in 1962, Indo-Pak wars in 1947, 1965 & 1971, Indian Peace Keeping Force Op. in Sri Lanka & in the Kargil Conflict in 1999.
  • Amar Jawan Jyoti merged with the National War Memorial flame.
  • Established in 1972, it was to mark India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 War, which resulted in the creation of Bangladesh.
  • The India Gate memorial was built by the British government in memory of the British Indian Army soldiers who lost their lives between 1914-1921.

Lt Gen Devendra Sharma Appointed COS, WC

  • Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma has been appointed the Chief of Staff (COS), Western Command, Chand mandir.
  • General Sharma is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy.
  • He has also served as a member of the prestigious Indian Military Training Team in Bhutan and as the Chief Military Personnel Officer with the United Nations Mission in West Africa.

Award Honour to Defence Estates Personnel

  • Raksha Mantri gave away awards to the personnel of Defence Estates for their contribution to the successful completion of a survey of 17.78 lakh acres of defence land using modern technologies.
  • Awards were given to 11 officers and 24 personnel of 38 Defence Estates Offices and four Assistant Defence Estates Offices.
  • Survey work of 17.78 lakh acres of land has been completed which is a significant achievement, as for the first-time post-independence the entire defence land was surveyed in coordination with revenue authorities of various state governments using the latest survey techniques.

ALH MK III Induction In ICG

  • 02 indigenous ALH Mk III aircraft received in a befitting ceremony at 845 Sqn, Coast Guard Air Enclave Kochi on 10th Feb 22. These aircraft will boost SAR capabilities & op efficiency of #ICG in AoR.

‘Varuna’ – A Personal Air Mobility Vehicle

  • VAdm SN Ghormade, Vice Chief of Naval Staff VCNS reviewed the progress & witnessed flight trials of ‘Varuna’ – a personal air mobility vehicle capable of being launched & recovered from moving ships (1/5).
  • VCNS also saw autonomous boats & prototype of Autonomous Modular Inflatable Target (AMIT) for which a patent application has been filed by Indian Navy.

Indian Nuclear Installations Secure from Cyber-Attacks

  • Union Minister of State Science & Technology said that Indian Nuclear Installations and Nuclear Power Stations are secure from Cyber-attacks.
  • The safety and security-critical systems are designed and developed in-house using custom-built hardware and software which are subjected to regulatory verification and validation, thereby making them resistant to cyber security threats.
  • Department of Atomic Energy has specialist groups like Computer & Information Security Advisory Group (CISAG) and Taskforce for Instrumentation & control security (TAFICS) to look after cyber security/information security of DAE units.
