Advanced Version of Brahmos Missile Test-fired

  • India on Tuesday successfully test-fired a naval variant of the advanced supersonic BrahMos cruise missile from a stealth guided-missile destroyer was tested from INS Visakhapatnam.
  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said the missile hit the designated target “precisely”.
  •  BrahMos Aerospace, an India-Russian joint venture, produces supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or land platforms.
  • BrahMos missile flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach or almost three times the speed of sound.

Chinese Army Begins 2022 Training Program

  • Chairman Xi Jinping signed a mobilization order that marked the formal commencement of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) training activities for the New Year.
  • A ceremonial event was held at a training area belonging to the 81st Aviation Brigade of the Central Theater Command.

DRDO Flight Tests Final Deliverable Configuration of MPATGM

  • DRDO successfully flight tested the final deliverable configuration of Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) on January 11, 2022. 
  • The indigenously developed anti-tank missile is a low weight, fire & forget missile and is launched from a man-portable launcher, integrated with thermal sight.

Three Rafale Jets with Indian Enhancements To Be Delivered By February

  • The stage is set for Indian Air Force to receive the last four Rafale fighters from France from February with all of them fully equipped with India specific enhancements, which will give extra teeth to fight any regional adversary.

Modi Government to Shelve Multiple Defence Import Projects To Promote Make In India

  • In a major push towards Atmanirbhar Bharat in the military sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government is going to shelve a number of defence import projects being acquired through the Buy (Global) route.
  • This initiative from the government comes at a time when the Centre is coming up with the new Defence Production and Export Promotion Policy.
  • Buy Global category means that defence forces can fully import the item from foreign vendors. And first preference would be given to the acquisition of Indian Developed Designed and Manufactured (IDDM) products.

Taiwan Passes Extra $8.6bn Defence Budget As China Threat Grows

  • Taiwan’s parliament has passed an extra spending bill of $8.6bn, in the latest bid to boost defence capabilities against growing military threats from China.
  • The additional resources are aimed at acquiring precision missiles and mass-manufacture high-efficiency naval ships “in the shortest period of time” to boost the island’s sea and air capabilities, the government said.
