CRNO VISIT TO INDIA

  • Rear Admiral Saif Bin Nasser Bin Mohsin Al Rahbi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman (CRNO) is on a goodwill visit to India.
    • The visit aims to consolidate bilateral relations with the Indian Navy, as also to explore new avenues for defence cooperation with India.
    • Both Navies have been participating in the biennial maritime exercise ‘Naseem Al Bahr’ since 1993.
    • This exercise was last conducted in 2020, off Goa and the next edition is scheduled later this year.

BHEL Bags Order For Tejas Aircraft

  • Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has received a prestigious order for the supply of compact heat exchanger sets for 83 LCA Tejas MK1A aircraft, from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
  • The BHEL’s Heavy Plates and Vessels Plant (HPVP), Visakhapatnam is the sole supplier of heat exchangers for LCA Tejas to HAL since 1996.

India, Maldives Defence Dialogue  

  • Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar has held “very productive” talks with the top military brass of the Maldives to further bolster bilateral defence and security cooperation amid concerns over China’s increasing footprint in the Indian Ocean.
  • In November, India, the Maldives & Sri Lanka held a two-day maritime operation in the Indian Ocean.

Government Approves Rs 26,275 Crore for Police Modernisation

  • To improve the quality of forensics, policing and weapons, the Centre has approved the continuation of a mega police modernisation scheme for five years (up to 2025-26) with a financial outlay of Rs 26,275 crore.
  • The Union home ministry said the scheme includes security-related expenditure in Jammu and Kashmir, northeastern states, and Maoist-affected areas for raising new battalions, developing high-tech forensic laboratories, and other investigation tools.

  • An outlay of Rs 18,839 crore has been earmarked for security-related expenditure in J&K, insurgency-hit northeastern states, and Left-wing extremism-affected areas.
  • Rs 4,846 crore will be given by the Centre for the modernisation of the state police forces for forensic sciences facilities.

US, Japan, South Korea Meet Over North Korea

  • THE U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his Japanese and South Korean counterparts were meeting Saturday in Hawaii to discuss the threat posed by nuclear-armed North Korea after Pyongyang began the year with a series of missile tests.

India To Ban 54 More Chinese Apps

  • The Government of India will ban 54 more Chinese apps that pose a threat to India’s security.
  • The 54 Chinese apps include Beauty Camera: Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera – Selfie Camera, Equalizer & Bass Booster, CamCard for SalesForce Ent, Isoland 2: Ashes of Time Lite, Viva Video Editor, Tencent Xriver, Onmyoji Chess, Onmyoji Arena, AppLock, Dual Space Lite.
  • China opposed India’s decision to continue the ban on Chinese mobile apps and said the action is in violation of the World Trade Organisation’s non-discriminatory principles.
