World Consumer Rights Day 2022

  • World Consumer Rights day is celebrated on 15 March 2022 every year with an aim to encourage awareness about consumer rights and needs across the world.
  • It was Consumer International that started observing this day and still celebrates it every year.
  • Consumer International is a global federation of consumer organizations that was founded in 1960 as an independent and influential voice of the consumers.
  • This day was first celebrated in the year 1983 and 15 March was chosen because it was on this day that U.S. President John Fitzgerald Kennedy mentioned four important consumer rights in his speech to Congress:
  • Right to safety
  • Right to be informed
  • Right to choose
  • Right to be heard.
  • The theme for world consumer rights day 2022 is “Fair Digital Finance”.

COVID Vaccination For Age Group 12 To 14 To Begin

  • COVID19 vaccination of children in the age group of 12 to 14 years will be started from tomorrow.
  • Only Corbevax vaccine will be used for the beneficiaries of age group 12 to 13 and 13 to 14 years. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written a letter to Chief Secretaries and administrators of all states and Union Territories.
  • He said, precaution dose can now be provided to 60 plus and above. Prioritization and sequencing of this dose will be based on completion of 9 months from the date of 2nd dose. Vaccination of precaution dose should be with the same vaccine with which primary vaccination was done.
  • Health Secretary said, the Vaccine will be administered to only those children who have attained the age of 12 years on the date of vaccination.
  • The vaccinator and verifier will be responsible to ensure that any beneficiary aged less than 12 years on the date of vaccination is not vaccinated with special attention to those born in 2010. All beneficiaries who have attained age of 12 years will be able to register on CoWIN. The appointments can be booked online or onsite (walk-in) for 12 to 14 years.

6th India – Japan Act East Forum

  • Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla today chaired the 6th India Japan Act East Forum with Ambassador Satoshi Suzuki.
  • They reviewed progress of ongoing projects in connectivity, hydropower, forest management, water supply and sewerage, skills, Japanese language and exchanged views on further cooperation.
  • The AEF was established in 2017 to provide a platform for India-Japan collaboration in the Northeastern Region under India’s “Act East Policy” and Japan’s vision for a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.

3 Million People Have Fled Ukraine: IOM

  • The International Organization for Migration says more than 3 million people have fled Ukraine since Russia invaded last month.
  • The new milestone also indicated that some 157,000 third-country nationals – people who aren’t Ukrainian – were part of the outflow in what U.N. officials have called the largest refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.
  • IOM spokesman Paul Dillon said at a U.N. news briefing in Geneva on Tuesday that the totals were compiled from figures provided by national authorities.
  • The U.N. refugee agency UNHCR, which provides a more detailed count than the IOM though based on similar data, has reported that more than 1.8 million of the refugees were in Poland.
  • UNHCR spokesman Matthew Saltmarsh said some 300,000 had moved on from there to Western Europe and noted that the vast majority of those fleeing have been women and children.

No Decision To Prepare NRC At National Level

  • Government Has Not Taken Any Decision To Prepare The National Register Of Indian Citizens At The National Level So Far.
  • This Was Stated By Minister Of State For Home, Nityanand Rai In A Written Reply In The Lok Sabha Today. He Said, The Supplementary List Of Inclusions And Exclusions For NRC, Assam Have Been Published In  August 2019 On The Direction Of The Supreme Court.

Former AP Governor, Ms Kumudben Joshi Is No More

  • Kumudben Manishankar Joshi (31 January 1934 – 14 March 2022) was the Governor of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh from 26 November 1985 to 7 February 1990. She was the second female Governor of the state after Sharda Mukherjee.[1] She also became Deputy Minister of Information and Broadcasting (October 1980 – January 1982) and Deputy Minister of Health and Family Welfare (January 1982 – December 1984)
  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the passing away of former Andhra Pradesh Governor and Union Minister, Ms Kumudben Joshi.
  • Prime Minister tweeted in Gujarati.
  • “The news of the death of former Andhra Pradesh Governor and Union Minister Kumudben Joshiji is very sad. Her contribution in the field of women empowerment and public service will always be remembered. Condolences to her family and fans. Peace be upon you.”

Increase Representation Of Women Police Personnel

  • The minister of state for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai has informed that regular advisories are issued to all the state governments to increase the representation of women in police.
  • In his reply in Lok Sabha today, the minister said that the advisory suggests increasing women police personnel from the present 10.3 percent to 33 percent of the total strength. It is suggested to create additional posts of women constables, sub-inspectors by converting the vacant posts.
  • The minister informed the House that it is proposed that each police station should have at least three women sub-inspectors and 10 women police constables so that a women’s help desk is operated round the clock.
