Toyota Mirai Launched By Nitin Gadkari

  • Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari today launched the world’s most advanced technology- developed Green Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Toyota Mirai in New Delhi. He said it is an important initiative in promoting clean energy and protecting the environment by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and thereby making India ‘Energy Self-reliant’ by 2047.
  • Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, R K Singh and Mahendra Nath Pandey including Toyota Kirloskar Motor Managing Director Masakazu Yoshimura and Vice Chairman Vikram Kirloskar were also present at the launch.
  • Road Transport Ministry said, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and International Center for Automotive Technology are conducting a Pilot Project to study and evaluate the world’s most advanced Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Toyota Mirai which runs on hydrogen, on Indian roads and climatic conditions.
  • The Ministry said that this is a first of its kind project in India which aims at creating a Green Hydrogen based ecosystem in the country by bringing awareness about the unique utility of Green Hydrogen and FCEV technology. It said that introduction and adoption of technology to tap into the Green hydrogen’s potential will play a key role in securing a clean and affordable energy future for India.

5G Technology Trials Permitted

  • The Government has granted permission to Bharat Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone, and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam limited for conducting 5G technology trials.
  • It was also informed that the frequency band opened for International Mobile telecommunications including 5G technology in India has enough guard band to ensure that there is no aeronautical interference.

Six Sigma Healthcare Excellence Awards 2022

  • Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has said that Government has stressed on creating medical infrastructure in the last seven years which has resulted in creation of medical colleges in the country.
  • Presenting Six Sigma Healthcare Excellence Awards 2022 in New Delhi today, Mr Thakur said, from 2014 to 2022, there has been a 54 per cent increase in medical colleges. He said, in 2014, there were 387 medical colleges and now the number has reached 596.
  • The Minister said, 39 medical colleges have been built in aspirational districts. He said, there has been an increase of 80 per cent in the Undergraduate and Post Graduate Seats in Medical Colleges.
  • “Six Sigma Excellence Awards 2022” Asia’s Biggest Awards is to recognize the outstanding leaders for their extraordinary contributions to Society. With an INTERNATIONAL coverage of 110+ countries including more than 50,000 Hospitals, Institutes numbering no less than 15,000 potential nominations.

National Cooperative Database

  • The Centre has initiated a process for creating a National Cooperative database. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said, his Ministry has already started consultations with stakeholders on finalization of various parameters, procedures and process for inclusion in the database.
  • He said, the proposed database may act as the main planning tool for Central Ministries, State Governments, Cooperative Federations, Cooperators and sectoral institutions including NABARD for the cooperative sector.

36th International Geological Congress

  • The 36th International Geological Congress will be held in New Delhi from March 20. The three-day event will provide a unique platform for knowledge and experience sharing in the field of geosciences and professional networking.
  • It will give first-hand information on latest technologies in mining, mineral exploration and management of water, mineral resource and the environment. The theme of the event is Geosciences: The Basic Science for a Sustainable Future.

FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022

  • India has won the bid to host the FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022 in Chennai. It was originally scheduled to be held in Russia. But the FIDE recently announced that it pulled out from there following the Ukraine invasion. After the announcement, Tamil Nadu government and the All India Chess Federation made a joint bid to host the prestigious tournament and won. 
  • A statement by the state government says, this is the first time India hosts the FIDE Chess Olympiad since its inception in 1927. In the event, Chennai will host about 2000 participants from all over the world. India, being the host nation, will get the opportunity to send in multiple teams, increasing the probability to have a podium finish.
  • The tentative dates for the FIDE Chess Olympiad are fixed to be from 26th July 2022 to 8th August 2022.
