INSVs IN PRESIDENT’S FLEET REVIEW 2022

  • As part of PFR 2022 Sail Parade activities, six Ocean going Indian Naval Sailing Vessels (INSVs) viz Mhadei, Tarini, Bulbul, Hariyal, Kadalpura & Neelkanth have arrived at Visakhapatnam from Goa.
    • The crew also includes six women officers.
    • The expedition commenced from Goa on 12 Jan 22. The 3000 KM passage of the INSVs from Goa to Visakhapatnam was carried under the aegis of the Indian Naval Sailing Association.
    • In the past, Mhadei has done solo circumnavigation of ‘Sagar Parikrama’ with Capt. Dilip Donde in 2010 and Cdr Abhilash Tomy in 2013. She has also done Cape Town to Rio de Janeiro races in 2011, 2014 & 2017.
    • The INSVs are planned to return to Goa by end of March.

Indian Navy Test-Fires Brahmos

  • Visakhapatnam carried out the test-firing of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile off the western seaboard.
  • The warship has now reached Visakhapatnam to take part in President’s Fleet Review on February 21.
  • An underwater version is also being developed which will not only be used by the submarines of India but will also be offered for export to friendly foreign nations.
  • The BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile is a multi-platform missile that can be launched from different platforms including ground, air, and sea.
  • The Brahmos supersonic cruise missile is produced by BrahMos Aerospace which is a joint venture between India and Russia.
  • The missiles have been deployed by India at strategic locations along India’s border with China in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh.

RM Reviews Preparations of DefExpo 2022

  • Rajnath Singh reviewed, in New Delhi on February 18, 2022, the preparations of DefExpo-2022, Asia’s largest exhibition on land, naval & homeland security systems, to be held in Gandhinagar in March.
  • There has been greater domestic and international interest in this 12th edition of DefExpo.
  • So far, 930 exhibitors have registered for the mega event and the numbers are expected to rise beyond 1,000 in the days ahead.
  • The mega exhibition is being planned in a three-venue format – exhibition at the Helipad Exhibition Center (HEC); Events and Seminars at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Center (MCEC) and live demonstration for the public at Sabarmati Riverfront. Safety protocols such as the compulsory wearing of facemask, non-contact interactions, respiratory hygiene, etc will be implemented at all venues in line with the prevailing health protocols.

H.M Orders Strengthening of Security Grid

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed that the security grid in J&K should be further strengthened to ensure zero cross-border infiltration and to eliminate terrorism.
  • The directive came at a high-level meeting during which Shah reviewed the security situation in the UT.
  • LG of J&K Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Army Chief Gen Naravane & other senior officers of the central and J&K governments attended the meeting.
  • The number of terror incidents has declined from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021, while the number of security forces personnel martyred has reduced from 91 in 2018 to 42 in 2021.

J&K Police Rolls Out Women Special Squad  

  • Jammu and Kashmir police launched a women special squad across the city for the safety and security of women in the Union Territory.
  • The squads will be patrolling around coaching centers, schools, colleges, and other vulnerable areas in Srinagar said the police.
  • They would relate to administrators of the educational institutions and coaching centers for immediate action in case of any emergent requirement.
  • The Union Territory Police deputed one inspector lady in charge and also issued women’s helpline no 9596770601 which will work round the clock exclusively for women’s safety and security.
