Age-old Darbar Tradition Ends in J&K
- J&K has two capitals i.e., Srinagar (summer capital) for the state and Jammu (Winter Capital).
- Started by Jahangir, this tradition had been continuing by British and Dogra Rulers.
- Both the Jammu and Srinagar secretariats can now function work from either Jammu or Kashmir throughout the year. This will save the government Rs 200 crore per year, which will be used for the welfare of the deprived sections.
India and Carbon Sequestration
- Environment and Forest Minister Prakash Javadekar today said, India has taken a target of creating additional 2.5 billion tons carbon sequestration by 2030.
- He said in last seven years, the tree cover within and outside the forest has grown by 15,000 square kilometers.
- The Minister kicked off plantation drive by planting a Parijat tree at his residence.
- Mr. Javadekar appealed people to plant a tree and ensure its growth. Van Mahotsav began a few years after India’s Independence. First celebrated in 1950 by then Environment Minister Rafi Ahmed Kidwai, Van Mahotsav lays the emphasis on impact of deforestation on the wild animals and forest-dwelling creatures.
- Carbon sequestration is the process of capturing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide.
- It is one method of reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere with the goal of reducing global climate change.
PM greets Chartered Accountants on CA Day
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has greeted Chartered Accountants on Chartered Accountants’ Day.
- In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “Greetings to all Chartered Accountants on CA Day. This community has a vital role in India’s progress. I call upon all CAs to keep the focus on excellence so that Indian firms emerge as one of the best globally.”
6th anniversary of Digital India Abhiyan
- Digital India is a campaign launched by the Government of India to ensure the Government’s services are made available to citizens electronically by improved online infrastructure and by increasing Internet connectivity or making the country digitally empowered in the field of technology.
TN replaces Word ‘Central’ with ‘Union’ Government
- In common parlance, the terms “union government” and “central government” are used interchangeably in India.
- However, the Constituent Assembly did not use the term ‘Centre’ or ‘Central government’ in all its 395 Articles in 22 Parts and eight Schedules in the original Constitution.
- Article 1(1) of the Constitution of India says “India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States.”
Global Cybersecurity Index: ITU
- India has ranked tenth (10th) in Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2020 by ITU (International Telecommunication Union) by moving up 37 places.
- The affirmation came just ahead of the sixth anniversary of Digital India on 1st July.
- India scored a total of 97.5 points from a possible maximum of 100 points, to make it to the tenth position worldwide in the GCI 2020.
