20-Year-Old Arrested in Himachal Pradesh for Allegedly Spying for Pakistan

In a significant development from Himachal Pradesh, law enforcement has apprehended a 20-year-old named Abhishek on allegations of espionage. The arrest took place in the Sukhahar area of Dehra sub-division, Kangra district, early Wednesday morning, following a tip-off from intelligence sources.

The police carried out a raid at Abhishek’s residence around 4 AM, leading to his detention. Superintendent of Police Mayank Chaudhary indicated that initial investigations have revealed alarming findings that pose a potential threat to national security.

Abhishek, who had previously dropped out of college, had been under the watchful eye of intelligence agencies for several weeks due to his questionable activities. Reports suggest that he might have been transmitting vital information to Pakistan using social media platforms and other digital channels.

During the police search, they discovered a mobile phone containing suspicious and objectionable material. This device has been sent for forensic analysis, which has already begun to provide key digital evidence relevant to the case. The accused has been charged under Section 152 of the Indian Penal Code, a move underscoring the seriousness of the situation.

SP Chaudhary announced that the digital evidence collected will be brought before the Dehra court on Thursday. Given the seriousness of the allegations, both central and state intelligence agencies have joined forces in the investigation.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing disbelief that someone from their midst could be involved in activities deemed anti-national. Authorities speculate that the accused may have shared sensitive military or administrative information in formats such as photographs, videos, or text, although further verification is needed through ongoing investigations.

Emphasizing the commitment to state security, SP Chaudhary remarked that there will be zero tolerance for any activities that compromise the peace and safety of Himachal Pradesh. He reassured the public that the state would not tolerate any element that threatens its stability.

This arrest is part of a troubling trend, following a number of similar incidents in neighboring Punjab and Haryana, where individuals have also been detained on espionage charges related to activities benefiting Pakistan.
