ARDE, Pune develops State-of-the-Art Canopy Severance System for LCA Tejas, HJT-36 & HJT-40
- This is an escape path clearance system for the pilot in case of emergencies occurring on indigenously developed LCA Tejas, HJT-36 and HTT-40 Aircraft. It provides safe passage by pre-weakening/severing the canopy to facilitate the smooth escape of the pilot in the shortest possible time.
- CSS has two independent sub-systems.
- In-flight Egress System (IES) for in-flight emergencies (which is integrated with the seat ejection operation)
- Ground Egress System (GES) for on-ground emergencies (which is independent of seat ejection).
- CSS works on the principle of controlled propagation of detonation using explosive mechanical energy. It consists of critical mechanical and explosive components qualified to military-grade requirements and demonstrating high reliability.
- CSS for LCA Tejas were tested successfully in seat ejection trials at M/s Martin Baker Co., London, UK and for trainer aircraft at M/s. Zvezda, Moscow, Russia.
- The CSS design has been cleared by Certifying Agency RCMA (AA), Pune.
- CEMILAC, Bangalore has issued Type Approval.
- ARDE and HEMRL are now capable of developing CSS for any Military Aircraft as required by Indian Air Force.
Keel Laying For Indian Navy’s 2nd Project 1135.6 Frigate
- The contract was signed on 25 January 2019 between Ministry of Defence and Goa Shipyard Limited under the indigenous ship building program.
- Keel for the first ship was laid on 29 Jan 2021. The first ship would be delivered in 2026 and second ship subsequently after 06 months.
- Also known as the Talwar class, the Project 1135.6 is a class of guided-missile frigates designed and built by Russia for the Indian Navy. A modification of the Krivak III-class frigates, the Project 1135.6 is fitted with a number of Make in India sub-systems.
- The two follow-on Project 1135.6 frigates are to integrate the BrahMos cruise missile system in place of the 3M-54E Klub-N anti-ship missile and “advanced sensors”.
Pakistan’s New Type 054 A/P Frigate Started Sea Trials In China
- Pakistan signed an initial contract for the delivery two Type 054 A/P frigates in 2017. An additional contract for two more ships was announced in June 2018.
- The first-in-class frigate was launched in August 2020 and the second in January 2021. The keel laying took place on May 1st, 2021, for third.
- All four units are built in China and the first two are expected to be delivered to Pakistan by year end.
- In addition to these frigates from China, Pakistan will also commission new corvettes from Turkey and OPV from the Netherlands.
- The Type 054A is a multi-role frigate and is recognized as the backbone of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) fleet of surface combatants with 30 vessels in commission.
Japan’s MHI Launches ‘Noshiro’ – 3rd 30FFM Mogami-Class Frigate for the JMSDF
- The vessel is named after the Noshiro River located in Akita Prefecture, Japan.
- The first ship-in-class, Mogami, was launched in March 2021 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries while another shipyard, Mitsui E & S Shipbuilding located in Okayama launched the second ship of the class, Kumano, back in November 2020.
- A total number of 22 Frigates are expected to be procured for the JMSDF.
