Paralympics Games Set to Begin

  • The 2020 Summer Paralympics, branded as Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, are a major international multi-sport parasports event governed by the International Paralympic Committee.
  • Scheduled as the 16th Summer Paralympic Games, they are currently ongoing in Tokyo, Japan between 24 August and 5 September 2021.

Health Ministry’s eSanjeevani Initiative Completes 1 Crore Consultations

  • Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare’s National Telemedicine Service- eSanjeevani has rapidly shaped into country’s most popular and the largest telemedicine service.
  • eSanjeevani has been widely adopted by patients as well as doctors, and specialists across the country.
  • In a record time the National Telemedicine Service has conducted more than 1 Crore (i.e., 10 million) tele-consultations across India.
  • That eSanjeevani has been quickly adopted by patients, doctors and specialists across the country is evident from the fact that it has shown astounding growth of over 1000% in last 10 months.
  • The National Telemedicine Service which was used for 160,807 tele-consultations in the month of September in 2020 enabled 1,650,822 tele-consultations in the month of July 2021.

Mera Watan, Mera Chaman

  • Union Ministry of Minority Affairs to organize “Mera Watan, Mera Chaman” Mushaira on 28th August 2021 in New Delhi under “Amrit Mahotsav” of 75 years of India’s Independence”.
  • Renowned poets will present their poetry and couplets on the “celebrations of India’s independence” while remembering the sacrifices made by the great freedom fighters: Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

Delhi’s New Smog Tower

  • Chief Minister of Delhi inaugurated the country’s first ‘smog tower’ in Connaught Place.
  • It was inaugurated months before the pollution level spikes in the national capital due to burning of crop waste (stubble burning) by farmers.
  • Smog towers are structures designed to work as large-scale air purifiers.
  • They are usually fitted with multiple layers of air filters, which clean the air of pollutants as it passes through them.
  • China has the world’s largest smog tower.

FDIs rise to $12.1 billion in May: Piyush Goyal

  • Foreign Direct Investment in the country is on the rise, which has increased to $12.1 billion in May this year and GOI aims to achieve the export target of USD 400 billion in 2021-22.
  • India has achieved the highest ever FDI inflows in the financial year 2020-21. It grew by 10 per cent to USD 81.72 billion and during May 2021 to USD 12.1 billion, i.e., 203 per cent higher than May 2020.
  • The top investors contributing to India’s high FDI inflows in FY21 include Singapore (29 per cent), followed by the US (23 per cent) and Mauritius (9 per cent).
  • He said that exports are registering good growth and outbound shipments during August 1-14, which grew 71 per cent over 2020-21 and 23 per cent over 2019-20.

India is Now 2nd Largest Manufacturer of PPE Kits

  • The country that once faced a shortage of personal protective equipment, is now the second-largest manufacturer of PPE kits in the world.
  • India manufactures more than 5 lakh PPEs and more than 104 lakh N-95 masks per day. The PPE industry in India is a Rs 7000 crore industry in the making.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) are protective gears designed to safeguard the health of workers by minimizing exposure to any biological agent.
  • It includes goggles, face-shield, masks (Surgical/N-95), gloves (surgical/examination), coverall/gowns (with or without aprons), headcover, and shoe cover etc.

Global Manufacturing Risk Index: Cushman & Wakefield Report

  • India has emerged as a global manufacturing hub and effectively surpassed the United States to become the world’s second most desired manufacturing destination.
  • The Report is released by Cushman & Wakefield is a global commercial real estate services firm.
  • In addition, Ease of Doing Business in India has gained significant traction and India climbed 14 positions to stand at 63rd now.
  • Based on the most favorable locations for international manufacturing, Cushman & Wakefield’s Manufacturing Risk Index report ranks countries based on a range of factors including:
