Tri-Service Command Inducts Advanced Light Helicopter MK III
- Indigenous Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) MK III aircraft was formally inducted at INS Utkrosh by Commander-in-Chief, Andaman, and Nicobar Command Lieutenant General Ajai Singh at Port Blair.
- The ALH MK III aircraft is manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
- The ALH MK III aircraft with its glass cockpit, Shakti engines, advanced Maritime Patrol Radar, Electro-optical payload & Night Vision Device will act as a force multiplier in keeping India’s far eastern seaboard and Island territories safe.
Brahmos Signs Contract with the Philippines
- BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) signed a contract with the Department of National Defence of the Republic of Philippines on January 28, 2022, for the supply of Shore Based Anti-Ship Missile System to the Philippines. The Philippines on Friday signed a $374.96-million deal with BrahMos Aerospace Private Ltd.
- The BAPL is a joint venture company of the DRDO.
MOU Between Indian Navy & India Infoline Home Finance Ltd
- The Indian Naval Placement Agency and IIFL Home Finance Ltd signed an MoU on 27 Jan 22. Both entities will explore opportunities for the recruitment of Naval Veterans within IIFL HFL who would endeavour to provide an opportunity for Veterans/ Ex-servicemen / dependents competent for various roles in their organisation.
India Pursues Independent Foreign Policy: MEA on US Concerns Over S-400 Deal
- India pursues an independent foreign policy that also applies to its defence acquisitions and supplies which are guided by its national security interest, the external affairs ministry said on Friday, a day after the US expressed concern over New Delhi’s S-400 missile system deal with Russia.

- General MM Naravane commended the retiring officers for their selfless service to the Nation & bid them adieu. These officers will superannuate on 31 Jan 2022 & continue to play a stellar role in Nation building.
Field Marshal KM Cariappa 123rd Birth Anniversary
- The KM Cariappa was the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army & one of the greatest Indian Military Leaders.
PM Addressed NCC PM Rally at Cariappa Ground
- Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the National Cadet Corps Rally at Cariappa Ground. The Prime Minister inspected the Guard of Honour, reviewed March Past by NCC contingents and also witnessed the NCC cadets displaying their skills in army action, slithering, microlight flying, parasailing as well as cultural programmes. The best cadets also received medal and baton from the Prime Minister.
- Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister noted a different level of enthusiasm in the celebrations as the country is marking the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The Prime Minister remembered with pride his NCC connection and credited his training as an NCC cadet for giving him the strength to carry out his responsibilities towards the nation.
- The Prime Minister paid tributes to Lala Lajpat Rai and Field Marshal Cariappa for their contribution in nation building. Both the brave sons of India have their jayanti today.
- The Prime Minister talked about the steps being taken to strengthen the NCC in the country in a period when the country is moving forward with new resolutions. For this, a high-level review committee has been set up in the country. In the last two years, 1 lakh new cadets have been created in the border areas of the country, he said.
Army Trainer Aircraft Crashes Near Gaya
- An aircraft of the Indian Army’s Officers’ Training Academy in Bihar’s Gaya, with two trainee pilots on board, crashed on Friday shortly after take-off.
Army, IAF Struggle to Exhaust Capital Budget
- The defence services have recorded an unusually slow pace of expenditure of their capital budgets so far for 2021-22.
- The Army has spent the lowest — approximately 40% — of its capital budget for the ongoing financial year, while the Indian Air Force (IAF) has had a capital expenditure of around 70%. The Navy has spent the highest among the three services at around 90% of its capital outlay.
- The defence budget is divided under four broad heads — defence pensions, capital outlay (for new, big-ticket acquisitions & modernisation), revenue (for smaller acquisitions of spares, maintenance costs), and miscellaneous, which includes various administrative expenses.
- The overall defence budget for 2021-22 is Rs 4.78 lakh crore, of which the capital budget is Rs 1.35 lakh crore. The capital outlay for the Army in the ongoing financial year was Rs 36,000 crore, for the Navy it was Rs 33,000 and for the IAF it was Rs 58,000 crore.
