Tech Conclave 2022

  • Communications and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav will inaugurate the 3rd edition of NIC Tech Conclave in New Delhi on Thursday. The two-day event was organized by the National Informatics Centre NIC. Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar, will grace the event as a guest of honor. The event will be attended by the Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and other dignitaries from Centre and State Governments.
  • NIC has been organizing Tech Conclave focused on Emerging Technologies applicable especially in e-Governance. The Theme for Tech Conclave this year is “Next-Gen Technologies for Digital Government”.
  • The speakers in this 2022 Conclave are experts from the IT industry who will share their expertise in various areas like Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, NextGen Database Solutions, Cyber Security, Future of Cloud, and various e-Governance Solutions, etc.
  • Benefits accruing can range from understanding the ICT best practices being adopted by the industry to spreading awareness about the latest technologies and trends, effective in the major digital transformation of the society.
  • IT MInistry said, Tech Conclave will enrich the IT Managers of Government Ministries and Departments on the latest ICT technologies and their use cases on the latest technologies and industry best practices. It will also provide a platform for IT Secretaries of State Governments to better know the new technologies and applications which can be rolled out in the states.

Field Assessment Of Swachh Survekshan 2022 Launched

  • The field assessment for seventh consecutive edition of world’s largest urban cleanliness survey, Swachh Survekshan was launched on Tuesday by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Designed with People First as its driving philosophy, Swachh Survekshan 2022 is curated towards capturing the initiatives of cities for the overall welfare and well-being of frontline sanitation workers. The survey, flavoured with the Azaadi@75 spirit will also give priority to the voices of senior citizens and young adults alike and reinforce their participation towards upholding the cleanliness of urban India.
  • Swachh Survekshan was introduced by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in 2016 as a competitive framework to encourage cities to improve the status of urban sanitation while encouraging large scale citizen participation. It has led to a spirit of healthy competition among cities and towns of India. The journey that started in 2016 with only 73 cities with million plus population has grown manifold with 434 cities in 2017, four thousand 203 cities in 2018, four thousand 237 cities in 2019, four thousand 242 cities in 2020 and four thousand 320 cities in Swachh Survekshan 2021, including 62 Cantonment Boards.

Stree Manoraksha Project

  • Women and Child Development Minister have assured that One Stop Centre will not be closed in the country. She said the government is continuously working for the empowerment of women.
  • While launching the Stree Manoraksha Project for capacity building of One Stop Centre, the Minister today said, this project has been designed to end the cycle of violence against women. She stressed that the process of empowerment must be started from childhood. She added that Stree Manoraksha Project is a life skill to provide help to women who are facing atrocities.
  • On this occasion, Minister of State for Women and Child Development Dr Munjpara Mahendrabhai Kalubhai said, the government took several steps for women empowerment like setting up One Stop Centre and women helpline. He said, One Stop Centre has helped over five lakh women in the country.

Ukraine’s Application For EU Membership

  • The European Parliament voted yesterday in favor of making Ukraine a member of the European Union. European Parliament is one of the European Union’s legislative branches. A total of 637 parliament members voted in favour of Ukraine joining the bloc, 13 voted against and 26 abstained. European Parliament President Roberta Metsola yesterday said that the EU will work with Ukraine towards making it a member of the grouping.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has filed an application to join the EU yesterday, a day after he urged for fast-tracking admittance due to the Russian invasion. Being a member of the European Union, which has 27 members at present, would allow Ukrainians to move freely between the 27 countries.
  • The European Parliament’s vote does not immediately make Ukraine an EU member. Joining the EU is a lengthy process and takes months as the applicant nation has to satisfy a number of conditions called the Copenhagen criteria. According to the EU’s website, the criteria include a free-market economy, a stable democracy, the rule of law, and the acceptance of all EU legislation, including of the euro currency. After the application gets approved by the European Council, the country must agree on a framework for negotiations.

ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022

  • The 12th ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup is all set to begin from Friday, 4th March in New Zealand. The opening match will be played between the hosts and the West Indies at the Bay Oval in Tauranga.
  • Eight countries will battle it out in 31 matches over 31 days at six cities of the Island nation. The cities of Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Tauranga and Wellington will be hosting the matches across six different venues
  • The Teams participating are Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and West Indies.
  • The tournament will be played in the league format, where all eight teams will face each other once, at the end of which the top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals.

Saurabh Chaudhary Bags Gold Medal In 10m Air Pistol

  • In Shooting, Saurabh Chaudhary has clinched India’s first gold medal at the International Sports Federation World Cup in Cairo, Egypt.
  • The 19-year-old Indian defeated Michael Schwald of Germany 16-6 in the gold medal match of the Men’s 10m Air Pistol event.
  • Russian Artem Chernousov grabbed a bronze medal.

Mirabai Chanu Secures Gold Medal

  • Mirabai Chanu is set to represent India at the Commonwealth Games 2022 after securing a gold medal in the 55 kilogram category by lifting a total of 191 kilograms in the Singapore Weightlifting International on Friday.
  • Chanu who was competing in the 55 kilogram category for the very first time, lifted 191 kilograms to stand on top of the podium in an uncompetitive field.
  • The Indian weightlifter found her glory after she secured the first medal for India at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She valiantly fought till the end and grabbed silver in the women’s 49 kilogram category.
