USA Celebrates 245th Independence Day

  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has greeted the President of USA, His Excellency Joe Biden, and the people of the USA on their 245th Independence Day.
  • Throughout the 1760s and early 1770s, the American colonies found themselves at odds with British imperial policies regarding taxation and frontier policy.
  • British officials also found their authority challenged by informal local governments.
  • Finally, the United States was founded on an ideal of democracy on the 4th of July 1776 by adopting the Declaration of Independence from the 13 colonies.

NIPUN Bharat To Be Launched

  • The Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education will launch National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat) tomorrow i.e., 5th July 2021.
  • The launch of NIPUN Bharat marks an important step undertaken by the Department of School Education and Literacy, among a series of measures taken for implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, that was released on 29th July 2020.
  • The vision of NIPUN Bharat Mission is to create an enabling environment to ensure universal acquisition of foundational literacy and numeracy, so that every child achieves the desired learning competencies in reading, writing and numeracy by the end of Grade 3, by 2026-27.
  • NIPUN Bharat will be implemented by the Department of School Education and Literacy and a five-tier implementation mechanism will be set up at the National- State- District- Block- School level in all States and UTs, under the aegis of the centrally sponsored scheme of Samagra Shiksha.

COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage crosses 35 Cr mark

  • India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage crosses 35 Cr mark.
  • Less than 50,000 Daily New Cases reported for a week.
  • India’s Active Caseload declines to 4,85,350; Active cases constitute only 1.59% of total cases.
  • Daily Positivity Rate (2.34%) less than 5% for 27 consecutive days.
  • The new phase of universalization of COVID19 vaccination commenced from 21st June 2021.

International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)

  • Team India 2021 won 9 Grand Awards and 8 Special Awards at Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) for innovations ranging from identification of genes responsible that resist abiotic stress in species to augmented reality smart stethoscope that allows non-medicals to perform accurate pulmonary screening.
  • ISEF is an annual science fair in the USA, owned and administered by the Society for Science (NGO) based in Washington, D.C.

Trafficking in Persons report 2021

  • Released by the US State Department, the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in an increase in vulnerability to human trafficking and interrupted existing anti-traffic efforts.
  • Human trafficking, also called trafficking in persons, form of modern-day slavery involving the illegal transport of individuals by force or deception for the purpose of labour, sexual exploitation, or activities in which others benefit financially.
  • While India did not meet the minimum standards to eliminate trafficking, the government was making significant efforts, although these were inadequate, especially when it came to bonded labour.

Draft ‘Trafficking in Persons’ Bill, 2021

  • Ministry of Women and Child Development has invited comments/suggestions from all the stakeholders on the draft ‘Trafficking in Persons (Prevention, Care and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2021’.
  • The objective of the bill is to prevent and counter trafficking in persons, especially women and children, to provide for care, protection, and rehabilitation to the victims, while respecting their rights, and creating a supportive legal, economic, and social environment for them and to ensure prosecution of offenders, and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Financial Stability Report: RBI

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the 23rd issue of its Financial Stability Report (FSR).
  • The FSR which is published biannually reflects the collective assessment of the Sub-Committee of the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC – headed by the Governor of RBI) on risks to financial stability and the resilience of the financial system.
  • The Report also discusses issues relating to development and regulation of the financial sector.

Drop in Open Defecation: Wash Report

  • According to a new report by the Wash Institute (a global non-profit organization), India was responsible for the largest drop in open defecation since 2015, in terms of absolute numbers.
  • Universal access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) to achieve the United Nations-mandated Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 was also emphasized.
  • Within India, open defecation had been highly variable regionally since at least 2006 but by 2016 open defecation had decreased in all states, with the largest drops seen in Himachal Pradesh and Haryana.
