Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA), on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.
  • The scheme has a total outlay of Rs.79,156 crores (Central Share: Rs.56,333 crore and State Share: Rs. 22,823 crore).

  • Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan envisions saturation of critical gaps in social infrastructure, health, education, livelihood, through 25 interventions implemented by 17-line ministries of Govt of India by convergence and outreach; and ensures holistic and sustainable development of tribal areas and communities. 
  • Prime Minister also inaugurated 40 Eklavya schools and laid the foundation stone of 25 new EMRSs amounting to around Rs 2,834 cr.

International Conference IPRD

  • 2024 edition of the annual apex-level international conference of the Indian Navy, the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue (IPRD), will be held in New Delhi.
  • The theme of the three-day conference is “Resource Geopolitics and Security in the Indo-Pacific.”

  • According to the Indian Navy, IPRD is the principal manifestation of the Indian Navy’s international engagement at the strategic level, addressing holistic maritime security issues across the Indo-Pacific.
  • This year’s conference will focus on how traditional and newly identified marine resources are influencing contemporary geopolitics and how they will shape it in the future.
  • Offshore energy resources, such as hydrocarbons, are expected to retain their geopolitical significance.

Women Entrepreneurship Platform

  • NITI Aayog has launched its maiden State Chapter of Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) in association with WE Hub and the Telangana government.
  • With over 30 thousand registered women entrepreneurs and associations, the WEP has over 400 mentors from different industry sectors.
  • WE Hub Chief Executive Officer, Sita Pallocholla, has been appointed Mission Director of the WEP Telangana Chapter. WE Hub will be the nodal agency for all WEP activities in the State.

  • The platform aims at promoting and supporting women entrepreneurs across sectors, providing them resources, tools, and a robust network to enhance their business growth.
  • The WEP will offer customised support like digital skilling, access to financial services, mentorship, and market linkages.
  • Addressing a gathering of women entrepreneurs from several parts of the State, NITI Aayog CEO B V R Subrahmanyam said, women entrepreneurs face a number of hurdles like banks not understanding their problems and not getting any guarantors.
  • He said women need a helping hand to carry forward their entrepreneurial efforts. Telangana Special Chief Secretary, IT and Industries, Jayesh Ranjan said the Chapter will set up stalls in all the mandals in the State to promote entrepreneurship among women at the grassroots level.

Israel Bans UN Secretary-General

  • Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz has announced that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is prohibited from entering the country.
  • This decision comes in the wake of recent tensions between Israel and Iran. On Wednesday, Israel officially declared UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres “persona non grata,” citing what they perceive as a lack of explicit condemnation of Iran’s recent missile attack on Israel.
  • Foreign Minister Katz stated, “Those who cannot unequivocally condemn the attack on Israel by Iran do not have the right to visit our country.” He further criticized Guterres, accusing him of supporting various groups that Israel considers hostile.

  • The Foreign Minister went on to claim that Guterres’s actions and statements would be viewed negatively in the historical context of the United Nations.
  • This decision follows Iran’s missile strike against Israel on Tuesday night. In response to the attack, Guterres issued a statement expressing concern about the “widening conflict in the Middle East” and criticized the pattern of “escalation after escalation” in the region.
  • The move by Israel marks a significant escalation in diplomatic tensions between the country and the United Nations, potentially complicating international efforts to address ongoing conflicts in the region.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

World Green Economy Forum

  • World Green Economy Forum was launched in Dubai, bringing together global leaders and experts to address pressing environmental challenges.
  • Under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, the forum’s theme, “Empowering Global Action: Unlocking Opportunities and Advancing Progress,” set the stage for discussions on international cooperation and innovative solutions for climate change and sustainability.

  • First plenary focused on international cooperation for climate mitigation, where Luma Saqqaf, Director for the Middle East, Africa, and India at the Principles for Responsible Investment, stressed the importance of integrated approaches to achieving sustainable development goals.
  • A key session titled “Decarbonising Energy-Intensive and Hard-to-Abate Industries” explored strategies to reduce carbon emissions in heavy transport, construction, energy, and chemicals sectors.
  • Another session, “4Ps: Adding Another ‘P’ to PPP (Public-Private Partnerships + Philanthropists),” highlighted the importance of collaboration between philanthropists and the public and private sectors to drive effective climate solutions.

  • The potential applications of artificial intelligence in fostering a sustainable future were discussed in the session “How Can We Use AI to Help Create a Sustainable Future?”.
  • A highlight of the forum was a panel discussion on aviation and the green economy, which examined the future of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Panelists discussed the ambitious goal of scaling up SAF production from the current 200,000 tonnes to 300 million tonnes by 2050. They also explored various CO2 sources for SAF production and emphasized the importance of stakeholder collaboration and capital investment.
  • The UAE government’s target of 1% SAF use by 2031 was noted as a key driver for change in the region. The forum also emphasized the critical role of youth in shaping a sustainable future, recognizing their importance in driving long-term environmental progress.

India – 3rd Largest Ethanol Producer & Consumer

  • India has recently become the third-largest producer and consumer of ethanol in the world. This change is thanks to important policy changes made by the Indian government to encourage the use of biofuels and improve energy sustainability.
  • The government has launched several programs to increase ethanol production, including financial support for sugarcane farmers and manufacturers. These policies aim to make more ethanol available for blending with fuels, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and support farmers in rural areas.

  • In September 2024, the India Sugar & Bio-Energy Conference was held, organized by the Indian Sugar & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA). This event gathered policymakers, industry leaders, and other stakeholders to talk about the future of the sugar and bio-energy sectors.

Kho Kho World Cup

  • Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) and the International Kho Kho Federation have announced that the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup will take place in India in 2025.
  • The event will witness the participation of 24 countries from 6 continents and will feature 16 men’s and as many as women’s teams. Ahead of the World Cup, the KKFI plans to take the sport to 200 schools across 10 cities to promote the sport.

  • The federation will also run a membership drive for the school students with the aim of registering at least 50 lakh players ahead of the mega tournament. The tournament will feature a week-long series of matches, with top-tier athletes from across the globe.
  • Kho Kho World Cup aims to elevate this indigenous Indian sport to an international stage. Kho Kho has its roots in India, and the World Cup will highlight the rich cultural heritage and competitive spirit of the sport. The sport that started in the mud and now gone to the mat has a global presence with 54 countries playing the sport across the world.

ISSF Junior World Championship

  • In Shooting, India added 5 more Gold medals to its tally on Day four of the ISSF Junior World Championship in Lima, Peru. Divanshi bagged a Gold in the women’s 25m pistol
  • Ace Shooter Mukesh Nelavalli emerged as another star for India, securing two more gold medals, bringing his total to three in the championship so far. He claimed the junior men’s 25m Pistol gold with a score of 585, finishing two points ahead of fellow Indian Suraj Sharma, who earned India’s first silver of the event.
  • In the team event, Mukesh Nelavalli, Suraj Sharma alongside Pradhyumn Singh, clinched gold, narrowly edging out Poland by three points.

  • India secured its fifth gold in the junior men’s 50m rifle team event, with Shourya Saini, Vedant Nitin Waghmare, and Parikshit Singh Brar scoring a combined 1753 points.
  • At the ISSF junior world championship, India is leading the tally with 14 medals including 10 Gold, a Silver and three Bronze. The USA is at the second place, while Italy holds the third spot. The championships which include rifle, pistol, and shotgun events will end on 6th of this month.
